About bath repair in S98
Bath repair is our most common job. Chips on the rim, rust around the waste and cracks in acrylic are all fixed without removing the bath, normally in one visit. Typical jobs include cracks in an acrylic bath and chips along the edge of the bath, on pressed steel enamel, cast iron enamel and roll-top & freestanding.
From the moment we arrive, we keep the work contained to the one room. We mask off everything nearby, the work takes a few hours, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.
- Dust sheets and masking go down around the bath.
- We clean, key and degrease the damage.
- We fill it, let it set, then sand it flush.
- Colour and gloss are matched to the surrounding surface.
- We tidy up and tell you when the bath can be used, generally the following day.
What it costs in S98

Repairing versus replacing
Swapping a damaged bath for a new one normally involves a plumber, lifting out the old bath, making good the tiles and panel and disposing of the old one. A repair deals only with the damage in one visit.

How the damage happens
Damage during fitting is very common. Tradespeople drop tools and tiles into the bath, and the damage isn’t always spotted until later. We repair snagging damage like this regularly.
Most people get in touch when they notice one of these:
- Hairline or through cracks in acrylic
- Scuffs and scratches in the surface
- Chips along the edge of the bath
- A failed DIY repair that is discoloured or lifting
What a repair cannot fix
We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair can’t fix:
- Flexing caused by a failed cradle or loose feet
- Water coming from the waste or taps rather than the bath
- Cracks in parts of an acrylic bath we can’t get to from below
Materials and what they mean for the repair
Cast iron
Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, finished with fired enamel. Chips can rust if left, but the bath itself lasts for generations, so it’s always worth repairing.
Pressed steel
Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.
Landlord and trade work in S98
We also carry out snagging repairs for builders and developers, fixing chips and scratches before handover so nothing needs replacing. We are CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.
We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams in Sheffield and across the UK. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which is easier on the people living there.
S98 questions
It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work and until it has cured. The rest of the house is unaffected.
