How bath repair works in TD15

Chips, cracks, rust spots and small holes is repaired in place. Nothing is unplumbed, the tiles are not touched, and the finish is matched to the rest of the bath. Common call-outs are for an old repair that has yellowed or come loose and a chip where the taps sit, in whirlpool & spa baths, pressed steel enamel and cast iron enamel.

You do not need to empty the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, lay protective sheets and start once you’re happy with the plan. It usually takes a few hours, depending on the damage, and you can get on with other things while we are there.

  1. First, we check the damage against your photos and agree the plan.
  2. Any rust and loose material comes out, and the area is degreased.
  3. We build up the filler in layers, shaping it to the bath.
  4. The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

Keeping it looking good

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Have new chips seen to early
  • Stick to mild cleaners and a soft cloth
  • Don’t leave razors or cans standing in the bath
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating

For the first few days, keep heavy bottles off the repaired spot. After that, clean it as you would the rest of the bath, avoiding abrasives.

Don’t leave a chip on a steel or cast iron bath. Once water reaches the metal, rust begins, turning a quick repair into a bigger one.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

What bath repair costs

Prices start from £95. Each job gets its own fixed price. These are the things that affect it:

  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • What kind of damage it is

Instead of hourly rates, we price the whole job up front. Damage, material and access decide it.

Getting a price from photos

Most quotes are done from photos alone. To help us price it:

  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection

For most jobs, pictures are all we need to give you a price. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we’ll send back a fixed quote and some dates.

Repair or replace?

When the bath is otherwise sound, repairing beats replacing. It’s quicker, cheaper and far less disruptive, and the bathroom stays as it is. Where the whole surface is tired, we may suggest re-enamelling instead.

What your quote should include

  • How long it needs to cure
  • Whether the price covers travel
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT
  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

An acrylic bath is a moulded sheet strengthened from below. They don’t rust, but they can crack, scratch or be holed, and cracks need support from behind to stay fixed.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, with a fused enamel surface. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the body of the bath lasts a very long time, which makes it well worth repairing.

TD15: your questions answered

Will the repair show?

On a glossy bath, you’ll struggle to find it. On older, dull enamel the repair can look glossier than the area around it.

Are you accredited?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

Is it messy?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and tidy up before we leave.

Do I need to be at home?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Can you repair a chip on a coloured bath?

Yes. The colour is mixed on site to suit your bath, including older coloured suites.

How quickly can you book me in?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. We will offer you dates when we send your quote.

What do you need from me?

A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. After that, we just agree a date.
