Before and after: an old shower tray refinished by Surface Doctor

Questions from Cross-at-Hand

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

In most cases. We remove the old repair before doing a new one, so mention it when you send pictures.

How long does it take to cure?

You’ll get the exact time when we finish.

Can a cracked shower tray be repaired?

In most cases. A tray that moves needs its support sorting before the repair.

Is there any odour?

It depends on the job, but often a little. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum.

How quickly can you book me in?

We will give you dates with your quote. If it’s urgent, say so and we’ll do what we can.

Will the price change on the day?

If we find something the pictures didn’t show, we explain it first. You decide whether to go ahead.

Is my repair covered?

Every repair comes with our one-year guarantee. We’ll explain what it covers when we quote.

What does shower tray repair cost?

Prices start from £95. We give a fixed quote based on pictures of the damage. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo and your postcode.

What your shower tray is made of matters

Ceramic

Ceramic gives a hard, high-gloss surface. They chip and crack from impact, and we match the gloss when we repair them.

Enamelled steel

Enamelled steel trays behave like steel baths. Exposed metal can rust, so early repairs help.

What shower tray repair costs

Prices start from £95. A fixed quote means you know the cost before booking. We take into account:

  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • The type of damage
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • The material and finish

A repair usually costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

How to get a fixed price

It only takes a minute to photograph the damage. Try to send:

  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • A picture taken from further back
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size

No survey visit is needed: we price from pictures. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and you’ll get a fixed figure back.

10 questions to ask before you book

For landlords and businesses

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

If you manage property in Cross-at-Hand, we can repair and quote for several addresses together. Send photos for each one and we’ll price them together.

How the visit works

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive at the agreed slot, sheet and mask the area around the job, carry out the work and tidy away. Allow a few hours, or most of the day to resurface the whole tray from start to finish. Before we go, we’ll explain how long to leave it and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. First we check the tray is solid and work out why any crack happened.
  2. We clean and prepare the damaged area or the entire tray.
  3. Chips and cracks are filled, reinforced and sanded level.
  4. We colour-match the repair, or spray a new finish across the entire tray.
  5. The tray is left to cure and can generally be used the next day.

Before we arrive

  • Open a window if you can
  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit

Ask for a price

You do not need a survey visit. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

Related advice

Keeping it looking good

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Ventilate the room after showers
  • Don’t use strong acids or bleach
  • Replace failing sealant promptly
  • Rinse the tray after each shower

Keep scourers and harsh chemicals off the tray. Warm water and a mild detergent is enough.

Failed sealant around a tray should be replaced quickly. It lets water behind the tray and can damage the floor below.

Why repair rather than replace?

A new shower tray usually means removing the screen and tiling, preparing a new base and tiling again. Repairing or resurfacing the tray leaves all of that alone. Prices start from £95. Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. The size and type of damage, the material and access all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

When a repair is not the answer

We will not take on work that will not last, so here’s what a repair can’t put right:

  • Rotten or damaged flooring underneath
  • Leaking waste fittings
  • A tray that flexes because it was never properly supported

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.
