Shower tray repair in Duns, done in place

A worn or stained tray can be resurfaced, giving it a fresh, even finish. We regularly repair cast iron, stone resin and ceramic, and the jobs we see most are damage around the waste and a tray that looks tired however much you clean it.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. Just call us if there’s a problem and we will sort it.

How to look after the repair

So the finish stays in good condition:

  • Use a mild, non-abrasive cleaner
  • Ventilate the room after showers
  • Store bottles off the tray
  • Avoid strong descalers and bleach

Give the repair its full curing time before showering. After that, mild cleaners and good ventilation are all it needs.

Do not keep using a cracked tray. Water can get through to the floor and walls, where it causes damage you can’t see.

What happens on the day

Visits start with a quick look at the job together, so there are no surprises. Then the area is sheeted and masked and the work begins. Allow a few hours for a repair, longer for a full resurface, and we will tell you if anything changes.

  1. First, we check whether the tray moves.
  2. We clean the damage and open it up so the repair can bond.
  3. Cracks are reinforced and the damage filled.
  4. The repair is shaped, colour-matched and finished.
  5. We leave it to cure, normally until the following day.

Preparing for the visit

How we price shower tray repair

Repairs from £95. There is no charge for travel to Duns. The price comes down to:

  • How many items we do on one visit
  • The material and finish
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off

Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it, and doing several items at once reduces it.

Send photos for a quote

We price nearly every job from photos. This is what we need:

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • One picture of the whole shower tray

We price from photos so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and you’ll get a fixed figure back.

Should you replace it?

A new shower tray normally means taking out the enclosure and tiles, relaying the base and tiling again. Repairing or resurfacing the tray leaves all of that alone. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Duns. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

What you get with us

DIY kit or professional repair?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

Repairs by material

Stone resin

Stone resin trays are heavy and rigid with a gel-coat finish. Poor support underneath leads to cracks, and chips can be filled and matched.

Ceramic

Ceramic gives a hard, high-gloss surface. They chip and crack from impact, and we match the gloss when we repair them.

Honest limits

It helps to know what we cannot do too:

  • Water damage to the floor beneath the tray
  • Multiple cracks across the tray
  • A tray that flexes because it was never properly supported

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think.

Surfaces we repair

  • Cast iron
  • Ceramic
  • Enamelled steel
  • Stone resin
  • Acrylic

Duns: your questions answered

Can you price it without visiting?

Nearly always. If pictures do not show enough, we will ask for another angle.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Most of the time. Tell us what was done before and we’ll plan for it.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Generally, when the rest is in good condition. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. We will tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work. Everywhere else in the home is fine.

Can you replace the silicone at the same time?

Yes, if you’d like us to. It’s a good time to replace old sealant.

Will the price change on the day?

If we find something the photos didn’t show, we explain it first. The price only changes if you agree.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes, and it’s frequently cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and we’ll quote them together.

Can you make an old tray look new?

Yes. The entire tray can be resurfaced without removing it.
