How we handle shower tray repair in Old Way
We repair cracks, chips and scratches in stone resin, acrylic and ceramic trays, and worn trays can be resurfaced completely. Nothing is taken out, so the enclosure and tiles aren’t disturbed. We regularly repair stone resin, acrylic and enamelled steel, and people most often call us about damage from a refit or building work and a tray that creaks or moves underfoot.
You are covered after we leave: each job carries a one-year guarantee, and we will explain exactly what it covers when we quote.

Looking after it afterwards
How the surface is treated afterwards matters:
- Check the seal every few months
- Use the extractor fan
- Do not stand heavy bottles on the tray
- Don’t use strong acids or bleach
Keep an eye on the sealant, and replace it when it splits or goes black.
Act on split sealant early. It lets water behind the tray and can damage the floor below.
What happens on the day
Visits start with a quick look at the job together. Next, we cover and mask everything nearby and the work begins. It normally takes a few hours, or most of a day for a full resurface, and we’ll tell you if anything changes.
- We check the tray is firmly supported and find the cause of any crack.
- Next we clean and prepare the tray.
- Chips and cracks are filled, reinforced and sanded level.
- We colour-match the repair, or spray a new finish across the entire tray.
- Once cured, normally by the following day, you can use the shower.
Before we arrive
- Keep children and pets away from the room on the day
- Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
- Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
Ask for a price
The quickest way to a price is to send two or three pictures through our quote form or ring us. We’ll tell you honestly if a repair is the right fix.

What shower tray repair costs
Prices start from £95. Each job gets its own fixed quote. This is what makes a difference:
- Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
- How many areas need work
- The material and finish
- How easy the damage is to reach
No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. The size and type of damage, the material and access all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.
How to get a fixed price
Phone pictures are fine, there is no need for anything special. Ensure they show:
- Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
- A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
- Your postcode, so we can check dates
- Any earlier repairs or coatings
We price from pictures so you don’t have to wait in for a survey. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through.
What a repair cannot fix
Honesty matters more than a booking, so here’s what a repair cannot fix:
- Multiple cracks across the tray
- Plumbing leaks under the tray
- Movement caused by a poor base, until the support is fixed
Send us pictures and we will tell you honestly before you book.

What we are called out for in Old Way
A tired-looking tray is frequently the result of years of cleaning: abrasive pads, strong chemicals and limescale strip the surface finish.
Signs it’s time to call us include:
- Damage around the waste
- Scuffs and light scratches
- A cracked shower tray
- A tray that flexes
What your quote should include
- What aftercare is recommended
- How changes to the job are handled
- Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?
- What prep work is covered

DIY kit or professional repair?
We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.
It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.
Common questions in Old Way
What do you need from me?
A close-up, a wider photo and your postcode. Then we will agree a date.
Can you replace the silicone at the same time?
Yes. Add it to your quote and we will do both on one visit.
Is it OK to have pets in the house?
We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work and until it has cured. The rest of the house is unaffected.
Do you do work for letting agents?
Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as householders in Old Way.
Is my repair covered?
Yes: twelve months. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.
Can you redo someone else’s repair?
Yes, we often do. Removing the old work can add time, and that’s in the quote.
Is there any odour?
It depends on the job, but often a little. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum.
I rent my home. Can I book you?
Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Landlords are frequently glad to have it sorted.
Why repair rather than replace?
A new shower tray frequently means a new enclosure fitting, new tiling and new sealant. Repairing it avoids all of that and costs far less. Our shower tray repair starts from £95. Instead of hourly rates, we price the entire job up front. Damage, material and access decide it, and doing several items at once reduces it.
