Shower tray repair at your home in Playing Place

We repair cracks, chips and scratches in stone resin, acrylic and ceramic trays, and worn trays can be resurfaced completely. The tray stays in place, so the enclosure and tiles aren’t disturbed. We regularly repair stone resin, enamelled steel and ceramic, and the jobs we see most are staining and dullness across the tray and snagging damage in a new bathroom.

Playing Place questions

Do you work in Playing Place?

Yes. We work across the UK and come to Playing Place. Send us pictures for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Of course, and it normally saves money. Just add the extra items to your pictures and you’ll get one combined price.

Is a cracked tray repairable?

Normally, if the tray is firmly supported. The crack is reinforced, filled and refinished.

Are there extra charges for Playing Place?

Travel is included in the price, and we charge the same wherever you are.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Of course. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Will you leave a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we leave the room clean.

Can I keep using a cracked tray?

It’s best to stop using it until it’s checked, because water may be getting underneath.

Do you redo the sealant?

Yes, if you’d like us to. It’s a good time to replace old sealant.

Should you replace it?

Replacing a tray generally means refitting the screen, retiling and resealing. A repair leaves all of that untouched. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

The process

We agree an arrival time beforehand, so you know when to expect us. Once we are there, the work takes a few hours for a repair, longer for a full resurface for most jobs. We leave the room clean and you’ll know when it can be used.

  1. We protect the floor and the enclosure.
  2. Any sealant in the way is cut out.
  3. We clean and key the tray, then repair the damage.
  4. The surface is refinished to match.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when you can shower.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift

There’s no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.

Related advice

What your shower tray is made of matters

Enamelled steel

Steel trays have an enamel surface like a steel bath. Exposed metal can rust, so early repairs help.

Acrylic

Acrylic trays are lighter and slightly flexible, so a firm base is essential. Cracks and scratches can be repaired.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is generally cheaper.

How we price shower tray repair

Prices start from £95. You will not pay by the hour. The price is based on:

  • The material
  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • The type of damage

The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed price from your photos, so you know the cost before booking.

How to get a fixed quote

Phone pictures are fine. Just make sure we can see:

  • A photo taken from further back
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • The material, if you know it

Getting a price is easy: snap the damage close up and then the entire item, send them over with your postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote. Quotes are free and you’re under no obligation.

When to call us in Playing Place

Trays fitted on timber floors can crack if the floor moves, particularly if it wasn’t fully bedded. On concrete, an uneven base is the usual cause.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • A cracked shower tray
  • Movement when you stand on it
  • Damage from a refit or building work
  • Staining and dullness across the tray

What your quote should include

  • How long the guarantee is and what it covers
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT
  • How long it needs to cure
  • If travel is included in the price

How to care for the repair

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Avoid strong descalers and bleach
  • Clean with washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Keep heavy bottles on a shelf
  • Get a moving tray checked

Wait the full curing time before you shower. After that, gentle cleaning and good ventilation keep it in good shape.

Do not keep using a cracked tray. Water may be getting under the tray, where it causes damage you cannot see.
