Bath repair across TR3: what to expect

Chips, cracks, rust spots and small holes can be repaired with the bath left exactly where it is. There’s no plumbing to disconnect, the tiles are not touched, and the finish is matched to the rest of the bath. We are often asked to fix impact holes in acrylic and snagging damage from a refit, across pressed steel enamel, cast iron enamel and acrylic.

From the moment we arrive, the aim is to do the job without disturbing the rest of your home. We mask off everything nearby, the job takes a morning or an afternoon, and we finish with a tidy-up and a look at the finished work together.

  1. First, the area is cleaned and any loose enamel or rust is removed.
  2. The chip or crack is filled, then sanded level with the bath.
  3. The colour is mixed on the spot to match your bath.
  4. Finish coats go on, then the repair is polished to blend in.
  5. The repair is left to cure, and most baths can be used the day after.

Pricing in TR3

Getting a price

For a price in TR3, pictures are the quickest way: a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode. You’ll get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.

Near you in Carnon Downs

In Carnon Downs, that means homes near Devoran School, Church of Saint John and Saint Petroc and Richard Lander School and the streets around them. For rail, the closest station is Perranwell station, roughly 1.1 miles west of the centre. A little further out are Old Kiln Museum (3 miles north-east) and Royal Cornwall Infirmary (2.7 miles north-east). The countryside around Carnon Downs includes Daubuz Moors.

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacing a bath rarely stops at the bath: the tiles sitting on the rim tend to break, a new panel is often needed, and a plumber has to disconnect and reconnect everything. Repairing the damage avoids all of that.

  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price

Honest limits

We will not take on work that won’t last, so these are the limits:

  • Leaking fittings, which need a plumber
  • Metal that has corroded all the way through
  • A bath that moves underfoot, until its support is fixed

DIY kit or professional repair?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it does not stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Prices and what affects them

Repairs from £95. There’s no area surcharge for TR3. The price reflects:

  • How many items we do on one visit
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • The material and finish
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear

The price depends on the type and amount of damage, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so there are no surprises on the day.

Getting a price from photos

Before you send pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • A wider photo showing the whole bath
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

We price from pictures so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and you’ll get a fixed figure back.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are thick and very strong, finished with fired enamel. A chip down to the iron can rust, but the bath itself lasts for generations, so it’s always worth repairing.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Questions from TR3

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Yes, and it’s frequently cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and we will quote them together.

Do you repair coloured baths?

Yes, we match coloured baths too. The colour is tinted by hand on the day.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time we agree with you.

Do the materials smell?

A little, depending on the job. Open windows and an extractor fan help.

Can you fix rust around the plughole?

Yes, very often. The rust is cut back to clean metal and sealed before we fill and finish it.

What happens if you find more damage?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. You won’t be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

Can you repair a crack in an acrylic bath?

Usually, yes, as long as we can get to the back of the crack to support it. Check under the bath panel, or send us a picture.
