Shower tray repair for Spital homes

How we handle shower tray repair in Spital

A cracked or chipped shower tray doesn’t always need replacing. If it’s firmly supported, we can repair it where it is, saving you the cost and mess of a new one. Whether it’s chips caused during fitting and staining and dullness across the tray, we can usually put it right, on stone resin, enamelled steel and acrylic alike.

Big or small, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee.

Repairs by material

Enamelled steel

Steel trays have an enamel surface like a steel bath. Chips can rust if they’re left, so it’s worth repairing early.

Stone resin

Stone resin trays are rigid and slim. They need a flat, solid base, and repairs are matched to the gel coat.

When we would advise against a repair

We would rather lose a job than do one that won’t last, so these are the limits:

  • Trays cracked in several places
  • Rotten or damaged flooring underneath
  • Leaks from the waste or pipework (a plumber’s job)

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think before you book.

How we price shower tray repair

Prices start from £95. Prices are worked out job by job, from your pictures. What matters most is:

  • How many items we do on one visit
  • The material
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it

A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Getting a price from photos

We price nearly every job from photos. This is what to send:

  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size

For a price in Spital, pictures are the quickest way: a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode. You will get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.

DIY kit or professional repair?

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

Do you need shower tray repair in Spital?

A tired-looking tray is often the result of years of cleaning: abrasive pads, strong chemicals and limescale strip the surface finish.

The most common problems we’re called about are:

  • Movement when you stand on it
  • Snagging damage in a new bathroom
  • Edge chips from dropped bottles
  • Scratches in the surface

10 questions to ask before booking

How the visit works

We agree an arrival time beforehand, so you’re not left guessing. Once we are there, the work takes a few hours, or most of the day to resurface the whole tray in most cases. We leave the room clean and you will know when it can be used.

  1. The surrounding area is sheeted and masked.
  2. Any sealant in the way is cut out.
  3. We clean and key the tray, then repair the damage.
  4. The surface is refinished to match.
  5. We tidy up and tell you when you can shower.

Before we arrive

  • Plan for the room to be out of bounds to pets and children
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Make sure the room can be ventilated

Ask for a price

There is no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.

Advice

Should you replace it?

A new tray can be cheap, but fitting it isn’t: taking out the enclosure, tiling and resealing. Repairing it takes one visit. Prices start from £95. Compared with replacing, repairing generally costs far less, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

Keeping it looking good

Simple care helps the repair last. Our advice:

  • Keep the bathroom well ventilated
  • Give the tray a quick rinse after use
  • Keep heavy bottles on a shelf
  • Stick to gentle cleaners

Rinse the tray after use, use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, and keep the sealant in good condition so water cannot get underneath.

Do not keep using a cracked tray. Water can get through to the floor and walls, where it causes damage you can’t see.

Questions from Spital

Is a repair better than a new one?

In most cases, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

How soon can you come?

We will give you dates with your quote. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

Do you reseal the tray as well?

Yes, if you’d like us to. It’s a good time to replace old sealant.

How do I book?

Use the quote form or ring 0345 017 0787.

What happens once I’ve sent photos?

You get a fixed price and available dates. If anything’s unclear, we will ask for another photo.

Can I keep using a cracked tray?

We’d stop using it until it’s repaired, in case water is getting through.

Do you cover the whole of Derbyshire?

Across the UK, so Spital is covered. Prices don’t change with location.

Can you repair something that is been repaired before?

Generally, yes. Tell us what was done before and we’ll plan for it.
