Repairs by material

Enamelled steel

Steel trays have an enamel surface like a steel bath. Chips can rust if they’re left, so early repairs help.

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it needs firm support underneath. Cracks are strengthened from behind before the front is finished.

Do you need shower tray repair in The Flints?

On timber floors, movement can crack a tray, especially if the tray wasn’t bedded properly. On solid floors, cracks normally point to an uneven base.

Look out for any of the following:

  • Movement when you stand on it
  • Chips or cracks by the plughole
  • A crack across the base
  • A tray that looks tired however much you clean it

Questions to ask before you book

  • What aftercare is recommended
  • Whether the colour is mixed to match
  • How your room will be protected
  • What preparation is included

What a repair cannot fix

In fairness, some problems need a different fix:

  • Damage below the tray that needs a builder
  • Leaking waste fittings
  • Trays cracked in several places

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer.

What we work on

Repair or replace: which is better?

A new tray can be cheap, but fitting it isn’t: taking out the enclosure, tiling and resealing. A repair is one visit. Prices start from £95. Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Why The Flints clients choose us

Your questions about shower tray repair in The Flints

Do I need to be at home?

We need someone to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work.

Do you charge for travel?

We do not add a call-out fee. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.

Can pets and children be at home?

Just keep them out of the work area. We will let you know when it’s safe to use again.

Can you quote from photos?

Generally, yes. Clear photos let us give you a fixed quote without visiting.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

Which areas do you work in?

We work UK-wide, so The Flints is covered. Prices do not change with location.

Will there be a smell?

It depends on the job, but frequently a little. Open windows and an extractor fan help.

Can you repair something that’s been repaired before?

In most cases. We remove the old repair before doing a new one.

Can I fix it myself?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is typically cheaper.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

What happens on the day

We agree an arrival time beforehand. On site, it takes a few hours, or most of a day for a full resurface. The room is left tidy and ready to use once it has cured.

  1. We make sure the tray does not flex and look for the cause of any crack.
  2. We clean and prepare the damaged area or the whole tray.
  3. We fill and strengthen any chips or cracks and sand them smooth.
  4. The repair is colour-matched, or the whole tray gets a new finish.
  5. Once cured, normally by the day after, you can use the shower.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Open a window if you can
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area

How to get a price

How to care for the repair

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Use the extractor fan
  • Don’t use strong acids or bleach
  • Store bottles off the tray
  • Do not ignore a tray that flexes

Wait the full curing time before you shower. After that, mild cleaners and good ventilation are all it needs.

Failed sealant around a tray should be replaced quickly. It lets water behind the tray and can damage the floor below.

Work for landlords and builders

For anyone letting property in or around The Flints, we will quote for several properties at once. Send pictures for each one and we’ll come back with a combined price.

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out photos. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.
