Shower tray repair at your home in The Green

We check the tray before repairing it: if it flexes underfoot, the cause needs sorting before any repair, otherwise any crack returns. We’ll tell you if that’s the case. We work on stone resin, ceramic and enamelled steel, and the jobs we see most are staining and dullness across the tray and movement when you stand on it.

You are covered for a year from the day of the repair. Just call us if there’s a problem and we’ll sort it.

Before and after: an old shower tray refinished by Surface Doctor

When to call us in The Green

Rigid trays don’t bend, they crack if the floor beneath them is not flat and fully supported. Timber floors that move can cause it too.

Common reasons people in The Green contact us are:

  • Chips caused during fitting
  • A crack across the base
  • A damaged area around the waste
  • Scuffs and light scratches

What your quote should include

  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • What the guarantee covers, and for how long
  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?
  • When it can be used again

How to compare quotes

Repairs by material

Stone resin

Stone resin trays are heavy and rigid with a gel-coat finish. Poor support underneath leads to cracks, and chips are filled and matched to the surface.

Ceramic

Ceramic trays are hard and glossy. Impacts can chip or crack them, and we match the gloss when we repair them.

Should you replace it?

Replacing a tray usually means refitting the screen, retiling and resealing. A repair leaves all of that untouched. Prices start from £95. Set against the cost of replacement, repairing usually costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

Why The Green clients choose us

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.

Looking after it afterwards

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts:

  • Use a mild, non-abrasive cleaner
  • Avoid strong descalers and bleach
  • Reseal when the silicone splits or turns black
  • Keep the bathroom well ventilated

Keep an eye on the sealant, and reseal when it starts to fail.

Stop using the shower if the tray is cracked. Water can get through to the floor and walls, where it causes damage you cannot see.

Honest limits

A repair isn’t always the answer, and we will tell you before we start. Repairs will not solve:

  • Leaking waste fittings
  • Movement caused by a poor base, until the support is fixed
  • Multiple cracks across the tray

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Materials we repair

The Green questions

Will the price change on the day?

Your quote covers the damage in the photos. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.

Can pets and children be at home?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work. The rest of the house is unaffected.

Can you make an old tray look new?

Yes. Resurfacing gives a worn tray an even, clean finish.

Is it OK to use a cracked tray?

Only if you’re sure it is not leaking. Check the ceiling below for damp.

Do you cover the entire of Essex?

Across the UK, and that includes The Green. Prices do not change with location.

Do you reseal the tray as well?

We can. After a repair is a good time to reseal.

Can a cracked shower tray be repaired?

Often. If the tray moves, the support needs fixing first.

Will there be a smell?

It depends on the job, but frequently a little. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum, and it soon fades.

What happens on the day

You don’t need to empty the room. We bring everything we need with us, lay protective sheets and get going once we’ve agreed what we are doing. It usually takes a few hours, or most of the day to resurface the whole tray, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. We check the tray for movement first.
  2. We clean the damage and open it up so the repair can bond.
  3. Cracks are reinforced and the damage filled.
  4. We shape the repair, match the colour and finish it.
  5. We leave it to cure, normally until the following day.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Have a window or extractor fan available
