Our hiring checklist

Shower tray repair in Whitcombe, done in place

Every crack has a cause, and we find it first. If the tray moves, the support is fixed or flagged before we repair it, so the crack does not come back. Common call-outs are for scuffs and light scratches and a dull, stained or worn surface, across acrylic, cast iron and ceramic.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee.

Before and after: an old shower tray refinished by Surface Doctor

DIY repairs versus a professional job

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

Questions from Whitcombe

Will there be a smell?

There can be some smell while we work, which is why we ventilate. It clears as the materials cure.

Do you redo the sealant?

We can. It’s a good time to replace old sealant.

What does shower tray repair cost?

Repairs from £95. Because every job differs, we price from pictures. You know the full cost before anything is booked.

Is a cracked tray repairable?

Typically, if the tray is firmly supported. We reinforce the crack, fill it and refinish the surface.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes. Combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down. Send pictures of everything you’d like done.

Do you hold any accreditations?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Are there extra charges for Whitcombe?

Travel is included in the price, and we charge the same wherever you are.

Is it messy?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we leave the room clean.

When we’d advise against a repair

Some jobs aren’t right for a repair, including:

  • A tray that moves underfoot
  • Rotten or damaged flooring underneath
  • Trays cracked in several places

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly.

Surfaces we repair

  • Enamelled steel
  • Stone resin
  • Ceramic
  • Acrylic
  • Cast iron

Why repair rather than replace?

A new tray can be cheap, but fitting it is not: taking out the enclosure, tiling and resealing. Repairing it takes one visit. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. You get a fixed quote from your photos, so there are no surprises on the day.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

Acrylic-capped trays are lighter, so good support matters. We repair cracks and scratches.

Stone resin

Stone resin trays are heavy and rigid with a gel-coat finish. They crack if the base isn’t fully supported, and chips are filled and matched to the surface.

The process

You don’t need to empty the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, put protection down and start once you’re happy with the plan. Most jobs take a few hours, or most of a day for a full resurface, and you are welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. First we check the tray is solid and work out why any crack happened.
  2. We clean and prepare the damaged area or the entire tray.
  3. Chips and cracks are filled, reinforced and sanded level.
  4. We colour-match the repair, or spray a new finish across the entire tray.
  5. The tray is left to cure and can normally be used the following day.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

Ask for a price

We price from pictures so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and you’ll get a fixed figure back.

Aftercare tips

So the finish stays in good condition for years:

  • Keep harsh chemicals off the tray
  • Do not stand heavy bottles on the tray
  • Give the tray a quick rinse after use
  • Use the extractor fan

Rinse the tray after use, clean with mild cleaners, and keep the sealant in good condition so water cannot get underneath.

Stop using the shower if the tray is cracked. Water may be getting under the tray, where it causes damage you cannot see.
