Materials and what they mean for the repair

Composite and resin

Many vanity units have resin or composite basins. They repair well, and the colour is mixed to suit.

Period and antique

Older basins may have crazing, chips and makers’ marks. We repair carefully around original features.

Sink repair in Crafthole without replacing anything

Period basins are worth keeping, and we repair around makers’ marks where we can. Replacing them with something similar can be difficult. Typical jobs include cracks around the tap holes or waste and an antique basin with chips, in vanity unit basins, ceramic & vitreous china basins and Belfast and butler sinks.

Big or small, you get the same one-year guarantee in Crafthole and across Cornwall.

When a repair isn’t the answer

A repair isn’t always the answer, and we will tell you before we start. We can’t fix:

  • Plumbing leaks
  • Crazing all over, which suits resurfacing
  • Through cracks that let water out

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Belfast and butler sinks
  • Vanity unit basins
  • Antique & period basins
  • Ceramic & vitreous china basins
  • Enamelled basins

Looking after it afterwards

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • Get chips repaired early
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Store toiletries on a shelf
  • Fittings shouldn’t be over-tightened

Don’t rest hot hair tools or heavy bottles on the rim, to avoid new chips.

A crack near the taps can spread, so it’s worth having it checked quickly. If it’s leaking, turn off the water to the basin until it’s checked.

How it works

We turn up when we said we would and looks over the damage before anything else. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before any work starts. Most visits take a few hours, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. We start by cleaning the basin and assessing the damage.
  2. The chip or crack is filled and shaped to match the basin.
  3. We mix the colour to suit the glaze.
  4. The repair is polished so it blends in.
  5. You can normally use the basin later that day or the next.

Before we arrive

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
  • Clear the area around the damage

Questions from Crafthole

Yes, we frequently do. Removing the old work can add time, and that’s in the quote.

Can you repair an antique basin?

Yes. We repair around makers’ marks where we can. Tell us about it when you send pictures.

What happens next?

You’ll get a fixed quote back, usually with dates to choose from. There is no obligation to book.

How do I get a price for sink repair in Crafthole?

Repairs from £95. The exact price depends on the damage, so we quote from pictures. You will get a fixed figure before booking.

Do the materials smell?

A little, depending on the job. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum.

Is my repair covered?

Yes, for a year. If there’s a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Do you hold any accreditations?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

Are there extra charges for Crafthole?

There is no separate call-out charge. The fixed price covers the visit and the work.

Should you replace it?

A new basin frequently means a plumber, new taps and a new waste and repairs to the tiles or vanity unit. A repair leaves everything in place. Our sink repair starts from £95. We do not add extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair won’t last.

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.
