Different materials, different repairs

Composite and resin

Many vanity units have resin or composite basins. They repair well, and the colour is mixed to suit.

Vitreous china

Most basins are vitreous china with a hard, glossy glaze. The gloss is what makes a repair blend in, so we polish the repair to suit.

Sink repair at your home in Dunscore

A chipped basin is one of the most noticeable bits of damage in a bathroom. We fill, shape and polish the damage so it blends into the glaze. We regularly repair antique & period basins, enamelled basins and vanity unit basins, and the jobs we see most are a chipped basin edge and chips from dropped toiletries.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. Just call us if there’s a problem and we’ll sort it.

How the visit works

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive at the agreed slot, protect everything around the work area, carry out the work and tidy away. Allow a few hours from start to finish. Before leaving, we tell you when it can be used and how to care for it.

  1. First, we check the basin is firm and dry.
  2. The area is degreased and keyed.
  3. We build up the filler and sand it flush.
  4. We match the colour and the gloss.
  5. We tidy up and give you the curing time.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Open a window if you can
  • Let us know which floor the room is on

Ask for a price

No survey visit is needed: we price from pictures. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through.

Advice

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it will not stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, and the work is guaranteed.

Our hiring checklist

For landlords and businesses

Hospitality businesses can’t afford rooms out of action for long, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We can work around your bookings.

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

Common questions in Dunscore

Do the materials smell?

Expect a mild smell while we are working, which fades afterwards.

Will you leave a mess?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and we clean up when we have finished.

What do you need from me?

Some pictures, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, access to the room.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

What happens next?

We review the pictures and send a fixed quote and the next dates we have.

Do you come to Dunscore?

Yes, we do. Repair technicians travel to Dunscore from across the region, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Generally, yes. The old repair comes out first, so mention it when you send pictures.

How soon can you come?

That depends on our diary for your area. We’ll offer you dates when we send your quote.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Basins are frequently built into vanity units or tiled in, so replacing one disturbs more than you’d expect. Repairing it keeps everything as it is. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send pictures and you will get a fixed figure.

What a repair cannot fix

Before booking, it’s worth knowing the limits too:

  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)
  • Crazing all over, which suits resurfacing
  • A loose basin, until it’s refixed

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly.

Surfaces we repair

  • Enamelled basins
  • Belfast and butler sinks
  • Ceramic & vitreous china basins
  • Antique & period basins
  • Vanity unit basins

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. We charge the same across the UK, including Dunscore. The price reflects:

  • What kind of damage it is
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • The colour and finish to match
  • Doing more than one item at once

What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so you know the cost before you book.

How to get a fixed quote

You can normally get a fixed quote without us visiting. To make it quick:

  • Any details about the material
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • A photo taken from further back
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

Call 0345 017 0787 or use the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the whole basin, we can price the job without visiting.
