FAQs for Edge

Are you a vetted contractor?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

Is a crack in a basin repairable?

Frequently. Send us photos and we’ll tell you.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes. We carry out repairs for householders, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses.

Do you restore period basins?

Yes. We repair around makers’ marks where we can. Mention it when you ask for a quote.

Is there a call-out fee?

We don’t add a call-out fee. Your fixed price includes everything.

Do I have to be there?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.

Is a chipped basin repairable?

Yes. We fill the chip, colour-match it and polish it to the basin’s gloss.

Can pets and children be at home?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we’re working in. We will tell you when the room can be used again.

Why repair rather than replace?

A new basin may mean new taps, a new waste and new tiling, and it may not match the rest of the suite. Repairing it avoids those problems. Our sink repair starts from £95. Set against the cost of replacement, repairing generally costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you are paying for.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is usually cheaper.

What affects the price in Edge

Repairs from £95. We charge the same across the UK, including Edge. The price reflects:

  • How many areas need work
  • The material and finish
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Unusual colours or finishes

We charge the same wherever you are, so there’s no premium for Edge. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Quotes from your pictures

Good photos mean an accurate price. Here’s what helps:

  • One sharp close-up of the damage
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • The material, if you know it

If you are in Edge and want a price, the easiest route is pictures: one close up, one from further back, plus your postcode. You’ll get a fixed quote with dates to choose from.

Repairs by material

Period and antique

Period basins often have marks and character worth keeping. We repair them sympathetically and leave the character intact.

Composite and resin

Cast mineral and resin basins are common in vanity units. They repair well, and the colour is mixed to suit.

What we are called out for in Edge

Fittings tightened too hard strain the basin, and cracks can start at the tap holes.

You may need us if you’ve spotted any of these:

  • Crazing in the glaze
  • Damage to a basin in a vanity unit
  • Chips from dropped toiletries
  • Chips on the rim or front edge

What your quote should include

  • What aftercare is recommended
  • Whether the price covers travel
  • Who will actually do the work
  • How changes to the job are handled

How to compare quotes

The process

We work cleanly and quietly, so you can carry on at home. We protect the area first, then the work takes a few hours. Before we leave, we explain how soon it can be used and how to look after it.

  1. We check the basin is secure and not leaking.
  2. The area is degreased and keyed.
  3. We build up the filler and sand it flush.
  4. We match the colour and the gloss.
  5. We tidy up and give you the curing time.

Preparing for the visit

  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift

How to get a price

Ring 0345 017 0787, or send us pictures through the quote form. With a clear picture of the damage and one of the entire basin, we can price the job without visiting.

Honest limits

We won’t take on work that will not last, so these are the limits:

  • A loose basin, until it’s refixed
  • Leaks from the fittings
  • Crazing all over, which suits resurfacing
