About bath repair in GL6

Whatever has happened to the bath, we aim for the same result: a repair that’s smooth, sound and hard to spot. Proper preparation, careful filling and shaping, then colour and gloss matching so it sits flush with the rest of the bath. Our repair technicians work on cast iron enamel, roll-top & freestanding and pressed steel enamel, and the jobs we see most are rusty patches near the plughole and holes from dropped items.

Once we are through the door, we keep the work contained to the one room. We mask off everything nearby, the job takes a few hours, depending on the damage, and we finish by cleaning up and talking you through the result.

  1. We start by looking at the damage and confirming the plan with you.
  2. Loose enamel, rust and dirt are removed so the repair can bond.
  3. The damage is filled in layers and shaped to the curve of the bath.
  4. The colour is tinted by hand until it matches.
  5. Finally, it’s polished to match the shine and left to cure.

What you’ll pay

When a repair isn’t the answer

We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair will not do:

  • A steel bath rusted through
  • Wear across the whole surface, which needs re-enamelling
  • Acrylic cracks with no access behind them

How to look after the repair

So the finish stays in good condition for years:

  • Don’t scrub with anything abrasive
  • Get any new chip repaired before it rusts
  • Keep metal cans and razors off the surface
  • Cover the bath during DIY or decorating

Keep metal objects like razors and cans off the surface, because they can mark the enamel. A dripping tap should be fixed early, too.

Avoid standing in a cracked acrylic bath until it’s fixed. Every use opens the crack a little more, and water can get through to the floor below.

Repairs by material

Acrylic

An acrylic bath is a moulded sheet strengthened from below. They do not rust, but they can crack, scratch or be holed, and a crack only stays repaired if it’s supported underneath.

Pressed steel

Pressed steel is thinner and lighter, with an enamel finish like cast iron. Exposed steel rusts fast, particularly by the plughole, so early repairs matter.

DIY repairs versus a professional job

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it does not stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Repair or replace?

For damage in one or two places, a repair is the obvious choice. It’s a fraction of the cost of a new bath and fitting, it takes one visit, and nothing else in the room changes.

What your quote should include

  • Whether the price covers travel
  • What prep work is covered
  • Aftercare advice
  • What happens if they find more damage
