How we handle sink repair in Stanley
Period basins are worth keeping, and we repair around makers’ marks where we can. Replacing them with something similar can be difficult. Common call-outs are for a chipped vanity basin and a crack near the taps, on ceramic & vitreous china basins, Belfast and butler sinks and enamelled basins.
You get a one-year guarantee, the same in Stanley as everywhere else we work.

Repair or replace: which is better?
Matching a discontinued basin can be impossible, particularly if it matches the toilet and bath. Repairing it keeps the suite together. Our sink repair starts from £95. Set against the cost of replacement, a repair is generally a fraction of the price, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

- First, we check the basin is firm and dry.
- The area is degreased and keyed.
- Filler is built up and sanded flush.
- We match the colour and the gloss.
- We tidy up and give you the curing time.
Getting ready for the visit
- Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
- Let us know if it has been repaired before

How we price sink repair
Prices start from £95. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price is based on:
- How many areas need work
- The material
- The colour and finish to match
- What kind of damage it is
We charge the same wherever you are, so there is no premium for Stanley. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.
Send photos for a quote
Most quotes are done from pictures alone. To help us price it:
- Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
- Any earlier repairs or coatings
- One picture of the whole basin
- What it’s made of, if you know
We price from pictures so you do not have to wait in for a survey. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and we’ll come back with a fixed figure.
Materials and what they mean for the repair
Period and antique
Older basins may have crazing, chips and makers’ marks. We repair them sympathetically.
Vitreous china
Ceramic basins have a hard, glassy glaze. The gloss is what makes a repair blend in, so we finish the repair to the same sheen.
What else we do in Stanley
DIY repairs versus a professional job
If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.
It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.
Work for landlords and builders
Builders, developers and site managers book us for snagging repairs, fixing chips and scratches before handover so nothing needs replacing. We’re CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited.
Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets need rooms back in use quickly, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We can work around your bookings.
Keeping it looking good
A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:
- Keep heavy bottles off the rim
- Ask a plumber not to overtighten fittings
- Repair chips before they stain
- Keep straighteners away from the basin
Do not rest hot hair tools or heavy bottles on the rim, to avoid new chips.
A chip near the waste or taps can let water into the body of the basin and stain. Repairing it early keeps the job small.
