Sink repair in The Wisp

Sink repair at your home in The Wisp

Whether it’s a chipped rim or a crack by the tap holes, most basin damage can be repaired without removing anything. Nothing is unplumbed or taken off the wall. Our technicians work on antique & period basins, Belfast and butler sinks and vanity unit basins, and common reasons people get in touch are cracks around the tap holes or waste and a period basin that needs restoring.

You’re covered after we leave: each job carries a one-year guarantee, and we explain what it covers before booking.

How we price sink repair

Prices start from £95. We don’t charge extra for travel to The Wisp. The price comes down to:

  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • The colour and finish to match
  • How much damage there is
  • Whether we combine several jobs

There are no surprise extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Quotes from your photos

We price nearly every job from photos. This is what we need:

  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: take one close-up and one wider shot of the basin, add your postcode and send them to us. You’ll get a fixed quote, not an estimate.

Why repair rather than replace?

Swapping a basin frequently brings new taps, a new waste and tiling work, and it may not match the rest of the suite. Repairing it avoids those problems. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. A few things move the price: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send pictures and you’ll get a fixed figure.

What you get with us

  • We will tell you if it’s not worth repairing
  • No extra charge for your area
  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • Free fixed quotes from pictures

What a repair cannot fix

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • A crack that leaks right through the basin
  • Leaks from the fittings
  • Glaze crazing across the whole basin, where resurfacing is better

Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.

Materials we work on in The Wisp

  • Vanity unit basins
  • Belfast and butler sinks
  • Enamelled basins
  • Antique & period basins
  • Ceramic & vitreous china basins

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, ensure the area is clean and completely dry, and give it the full curing time. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is typically cheaper.

The process

On the day itself, there’s little for you to do. Show us the job, point us to the room, and we will get on with it. Most visits take a morning or an afternoon, tidy-up included.

  1. First, we check the basin is firm and dry.
  2. The area is degreased and keyed.
  3. Filler is built up and sanded flush.
  4. We match the colour and the gloss.
  5. We clear away and tell you when it can be used.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Keep a parking space free if you can
  • Clear the area around the damage

Work for landlords and builders

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover. Several plots can be done in one visit to keep costs down.

Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in The Wisp use us as well as householders. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it costs much less than replacing.

Aftercare tips

Nothing complicated is needed:

  • Ask a plumber not to overtighten fittings
  • Have new chips repaired quickly
  • Use mild cleaners only
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent

Go gently for the first few days, then clean it with mild products. Keep heavy bottles and hot tools away from the rim.

Cracks by the tap holes can grow, so get it looked at early. If water is getting through, isolate the basin until it’s seen to.

What your basin is made of matters

Vitreous china

Most basins are vitreous china with a hard, glossy glaze. The gloss is what makes a repair blend in, so we finish the repair to the same sheen.

Composite and resin

Cast mineral and resin basins are common in vanity units. They repair well, with colour mixed on site.

Questions from The Wisp

Do you charge for travel?

No. Our quotes include travel, and we charge the same wherever you are.

What do you need from me?

Just photos, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, access to the room.

Can tenants book a repair?

Of course. Check with your landlord; we can send the quote to them too.

Is it messy?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and we clean up when we’ve finished.

What happens after I send pictures?

We review the photos and send a fixed quote with dates.

Is a repair better than a new one?

In most cases, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. We’ll be honest if it’s not worth it.

Will you remove the sink?

No, it stays where it is. The surrounding area is protected and we work in place.

Can you repair a cracked basin?

Surface cracks can usually be repaired. A crack that leaks right through normally means a new basin.
