How we handle tile repair in Anthorn

A loose or rocking tile may need relaying first, and we will say so. We repair the tile in place, so you don’t need to find a spare. If you are dealing with damaged tile edges and cracked floor tiles, we can help, whatever the material.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there’s a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it. Avoid dropping heavy items on repaired floor tiles, and clean with a pH-neutral cleaner.

Can I fix it myself?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. There is no area surcharge for Anthorn. The price reflects:

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first

Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Getting a price from pictures

Almost every job we do is priced from pictures. This is what we need:

  • A wider photo showing the whole tiled area
  • Details of any past repairs
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Where you are, by postcode

There is no need for us to visit first. Photos are enough for us to price nearly every job: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Swapping out a damaged tile means breaking it out, tracking down a matching tile and possibly cracking its neighbours. Repairing it keeps the original tile. Prices start from £95. Instead of hourly rates, we price the entire job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access.

What we do, step by step

Arrival times are agreed in advance. Once we’re there, the work takes a few hours. We leave the room clean and ready to use once it has cured.

  1. We clean the tile and remove loose fragments.
  2. The chip, crack or hole is filled.
  3. The repair is levelled to the tile surface.
  4. We recreate the colour and pattern by hand.
  5. We seal the repair to suit the finish of the tile.

Preparing for the visit

  • Make sure the area is dry
  • Open a window if you can
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
