Repairing versus replacing in Crosby

Replacing a tile involves breaking out the old tile, tracking down a matching tile and possibly cracking its neighbours. A repair keeps the original tile. Our tile repair starts from £95. We don’t add extras on the day. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Why choose Surface Doctor in Crosby

  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • Free fixed quotes from pictures

About our tile repair in Crosby

We repair the tile in place, so you don’t need to find a spare. A loose or rocking tile may need relaying first, and we’ll say so. Common call-outs are for damaged tile edges and cracked floor tiles, in floor and wall tiles, ceramic tiles and natural stone & granite.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything is not right, ring us and we’ll sort it. Avoid dropping heavy items on repaired floor tiles, and use a pH-neutral cleaner.

What we cannot put right

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • Loose or hollow tiles that need relaying
  • Cracks caused by a moving floor, until the floor is fixed
  • Whole walls of failing grout

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly.

  • Natural stone & granite
  • Ceramic tiles
  • Marble
  • Porcelain tiles
  • Floor and wall tiles

DIY kit or professional repair?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, and the work is guaranteed.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

How we price tile repair

Repairs from £95. Each job gets its own fixed quote. This is what makes a difference:

  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • The type of damage
  • How many areas need work

Instead of hourly rates, we price the whole job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and doing several items at once reduces it.

Quotes from your pictures

You can take the pictures on your phone, there’s no need for anything special. Just ensure we can see:

  • A picture taken from further back
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • The material, if you know it
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates

To get a price, send a couple of photos using our quote form or call us. We will tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.

The process

On the day, the technician arrives at the agreed time, protects the room with dust sheets and masking and gets started. Expect it to take a morning or an afternoon. We tidy up before we leave and tell you when it’s ready to use.

  1. We clean the tile and remove loose fragments.
  2. We fill the chip, crack or hole.
  3. The repair is levelled to the tile surface.
  4. We recreate the colour and pattern by hand.
  5. We seal the repair to suit the finish of the tile.

Preparing for the visit

  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
