How we handle tile repair in Rowstock

The tile stays where it is, so there is no need to hunt for a matching tile. If a tile moves, it may need relaying first, and we’ll say so. We regularly repair marble, ceramic tiles and natural stone & granite, and the jobs we see most are damaged tile edges and chips from dropped pans and tools.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything is not right, ring us and we will sort it. Avoid dropping heavy items on repaired floor tiles, and use a pH-neutral cleaner.

What a repair can’t fix

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Loose or hollow tiles that need relaying
  • Cracks caused by a moving floor, until the floor is fixed
  • Whole walls of failing grout

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think before you book.

What we work on

  • Marble
  • Ceramic tiles
  • Natural stone & granite
  • Porcelain tiles
  • Floor and wall tiles

Should you replace it?

Replacing a tile means breaking it out, finding a match and possibly cracking its neighbours. A repair keeps the original tile. Prices start from £95. There are no surprise extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

What you get with us

  • Colour mixed on the day to match
  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor
  • Work done at your home or business
  • A fixed quote before you book

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. Prices are worked out job by job. What matters most is:

  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • The type of damage
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • The material

We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Rowstock. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

How to get a fixed quote

You can normally get a fixed quote without us visiting. To make it quick:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • The material, if you know it
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • One sharp close-up of the damage

Email us pictures of the damage and one of the entire item, with your OX11 postcode, and we will reply with a fixed quote.

Rowstock questions

Do you come to Rowstock?

Yes. We cover the entire UK and travel to Rowstock and the rest of Oxfordshire. Send us pictures for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Can you repair several things at once?

Of course, and it usually saves money. Just add the extra items to your photos and you’ll get one combined price.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Yes, almost always. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed quote.

Is it messy?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we take our waste away with us.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes. We carry out repairs for homeowners, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses across Oxfordshire.

Can pets and children be at home?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

Do you cover the whole of Oxfordshire?

Everywhere in the UK, Rowstock included. Travel is included in the price.

What happens on the day

Arrival times are agreed in advance, so you are not left guessing. Once we’re there, the work takes a morning or an afternoon for most jobs. We leave the room clean and you’ll know when it can be used.

  1. We clean the tile and remove loose fragments.
  2. The chip, crack or hole is filled.
  3. We level and shape the repair to the tile surface.
  4. The colour and pattern are recreated by hand.
  5. Finally we seal it to match the tile.

Preparing for the visit

  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area

Can I fix it myself?

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.
