Choosing a repair company

Tile repair in The Common, done in place

We repair the tile in place, so there’s no need to hunt for a matching tile. A loose or rocking tile may need relaying first, and we will tell you. Typical jobs include chips from dropped pans and tools and drill holes from removed fittings, in porcelain tiles, natural stone & granite and floor and wall tiles.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover. Avoid dropping heavy items on repaired floor tiles, and clean with a pH-neutral cleaner.

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacing a tile involves breaking out the old tile, tracking down a matching tile and possibly cracking its neighbours. A repair leaves the tile where it is. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed quote from your photos, so you know the cost before booking.

Why book with us

  • Most jobs done in one visit
  • Every repair guaranteed for a year
  • We leave the room as we found it
  • We will tell you if it’s not worth repairing

See our prices page.

What tile repair costs

Prices start from £95. Each job gets its own fixed quote. These are the things that affect it:

  • The colour and finish to match
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • The material
  • The type of damage

Our prices are the same across the UK, so there is no premium for The Common. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Getting a price from pictures

The better the pictures, the more accurate the price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • Any details about the material
  • Details of any past repairs
  • A wider photo showing the whole tiled area
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection

To get a price, send a couple of photos through our quote form or call us. We’ll tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.

Landlords, agents and businesses in The Common

We’re used to working with agents and managing companies. Just send pictures, the address and how to get access and we’ll handle the rest.

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets cannot afford rooms out of action for long, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We can work around your bookings.

The process

There’s not much you need to do on the day. Let us in and show us the room, and we’ll get on with it. Most visits take a few hours, tidy-up included.

  1. We start by cleaning the tile and clearing loose fragments.
  2. Next we fill the damage.
  3. We level and shape the repair to the tile surface.
  4. The colour and pattern are recreated by hand.
  5. We seal the repair to suit the finish of the tile.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing

Getting a price

There is no need for us to visit first. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote.

When a repair isn’t the answer

We’d rather lose a job than do one that won’t last, so these are the limits:

  • Loose or hollow tiles that need relaying
  • Cracks caused by a moving floor, until the floor is fixed
  • Whole walls of failing grout

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think.

Materials we repair

  • Marble
  • Porcelain tiles
  • Floor and wall tiles
  • Natural stone & granite
  • Ceramic tiles

DIY kit or professional repair?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We remove the old filler and start again, so it will not stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.
