Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. Every quote is fixed and free. What we take into account:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • Doing more than one item at once
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear

We charge the same wherever you are, so there is no premium for Field Head. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Before you send pictures, these tips help us give you a firm price:

  • Any details about the material
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size

Email us photos of the damage and a wider shot of the entire item, with your LE67 postcode, and we will reply with a fixed price.

Toilet chip repair at your home in Field Head

A crack that leaks cannot be fixed with a cosmetic repair, and we’ll say so if we find one. Chips are rebuilt and colour-matched to the glaze, so you don’t need a plumber or a new toilet. Our technicians work on pedestals, porcelain and cisterns & lids, and the jobs we see most are damage from dropped items and pieces knocked off during fitting.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. Just call us if there’s a problem and we will come back. Avoid dropping heavy items and clean the outside of the pan gently.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and give it the full curing time. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it does not stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

How the visit works

On the day itself, there’s little for you to do. Let us in and show us the room, and we will take it from there. The job generally runs to an hour or two, tidy-up included.

  1. We clean and dry the damaged area.
  2. Missing material is filled and rebuilt to the original shape.
  3. We sand it flush.
  4. The glaze is colour matched and finished.
  5. Finally we polish it into the surrounding glaze.

How to prepare

  • Open a window if you can
  • Make sure the area is dry
  • Clear the area around the damage

FAQs for Field Head

Do I need to be at home?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. You do not need to watch us work.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes: twelve months. If there’s a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Is repairing better than replacing?

In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it is not worth repairing, we’ll tell you.

Are you accredited?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

Can landlords book you?

We do, regularly. We quote for multiple addresses and fit around tenancy changeovers.

What happens after I send photos?

You’ll get a fixed quote back. You’re under no obligation.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit and until it has cured. The rest of the house is unaffected.

Is there any odour?

There may be a mild smell during the work.

When we’d advise against a repair

We’d rather lose a job than do one that will not last, so here’s what a repair can’t put right:

  • A crack that leaks water
  • A crack through the bowl or trap
  • A loose pan or leaking seal (that’s a plumbing job)

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think.

  • Cisterns & lids
  • Porcelain
  • Pedestals
  • Vitreous china

Common problems we fix in Field Head

Toilets and cisterns usually get chipped during fitting, or when something heavy is dropped. Cistern lids get chipped surprisingly frequently.

People normally call us when they notice something like this:

  • Marks on the outside of the pan
  • Pieces knocked off during fitting
  • Chips on the pan or rim
  • Chips on the cistern lid

Questions to ask before you book

  • How long the guarantee is and what it covers
  • Whether cleaning and preparation are in the price
  • How long it needs to cure
  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?

Choosing a repair company

Repair or replace: which is better?

A new toilet means a plumber and possibly new flooring, and a matching cistern may no longer be made. Repairing the chip keeps the toilet you have. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. No two jobs are quite the same, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.
