Worktop Repair in Moray

Worktop repair at your home in Moray

Worktops are expensive to replace and hard to match, especially in an L-shaped or long kitchen. A repair leaves the kitchen untouched. We work on solid wood, quartz and granite & marble, and people most often call us about burns from hot pans and knife marks.

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, lay protective sheets and get going once we’ve agreed what we are doing. It generally takes a few hours, and you are welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. The area around the damage is protected.
  2. We clean the damage and remove anything loose.
  3. We fill it and level it with the worktop.
  4. We recreate the colour and pattern by hand.
  5. The repair is sealed and polished to match.

Prices in Moray

Our worktop repair starts from £95. Rather than charging by the hour, we price the entire job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and doing several items at once reduces it.

Landmarks near Elgin

We visit homes around The Muckle Cross pub, Cooper Park and St Columba's Church of Scotland, among other places. There’s a railway station in Elgin itself: Elgin station. Nearby you’ll also find Dr Gray's Hospital (0.6 miles west) and St Giles Centre (less than half a mile north-west). Not far away are Loch Spynie.

Different materials, different repairs

Solid surface

Solid surface tops are the same material all the way through, so scratches and burns can frequently be sanded out and refinished.

Laminate

Laminate is a printed surface bonded to a board. We fill damage and paint in the pattern by hand.

Should you replace it?

Even a single new length of worktop means templating, cutting and refitting the sink and hob. A repair is a few hours with everything left in place.

Questions to ask before you book

  • A fixed price, and whether VAT is included
  • What happens if the damage is worse than the photos show
  • How the colour is matched
  • If travel is included in the price

Can I fix it myself?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it does not stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

What a repair cannot fix

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • A worktop that has moved because its support has failed
  • Cracks right through stone that has moved
  • Discolouration deep in quartz

How to care for the repair

Good habits make a big difference to how long a repair lasts. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Keep joints and edges dry
  • Avoid harsh chemicals on stone and quartz
  • Take care with heavy pans near edges
  • Always use a trivet for hot pans

Let the repair cure for the time we give you before putting anything heavy or hot on it. After that, trivets and chopping boards are your best protection.

Damage near the sink is worth repairing quickly, because water gets in and swells the board.

Moray questions

Will you leave a mess?

No. The work area is masked and covered, and we take our waste away with us.

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

We will show you and explain before doing anything extra. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

Which areas do you work in?

We cover the whole UK, including Moray. Send your postcode with your pictures and we’ll offer you dates.

Can pets and children be at home?

Keep pets and children away from the work area on the day, mainly so nothing gets touched before it has cured.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Generally, yes. Tell us what was done before.

Can you match the pattern on my worktop?

Colour, flecks and veins are recreated by hand, for a repair that blends in.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Nearly always. If photos don’t show enough, we will ask for another angle.
