Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £95. We charge the same across the UK, including Barrow Gurney. What changes the price is:

  • The material and finish
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • How much damage there is
  • The colour and finish to match

A repair usually costs much less than people expect, particularly next to the cost of replacement. Photos let us give you the exact figure.

How to get a fixed quote

Phone photos are fine. Make sure they show:

  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings
  • One sharp close-up of the damage

Send us photos of the damage and one of the whole item, with your BS48 postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote.

When to call us in Barrow Gurney

Kitchen worktops have a hard life. Hot pans scorch, knives cut, and heavy pans chip the edges.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Cuts and scratches in the surface
  • Scorch marks from pans
  • A dent from a dropped pan
  • Snagging damage in a new kitchen

Keeping it looking good

Looking after the surface is easy, and it makes a real difference:

  • Dry around the sink and joints
  • Always use a trivet for hot pans
  • Clean spills immediately
  • Steer clear of strong cleaners

Wipe water away from joints and around the sink, especially on laminate and wood.

Do not leave damage by the sink, as water can get in and cause swelling.

Barrow Gurney: your questions answered

How soon can you come?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. We’ll offer you dates when we send your quote.

Can you match granite flecks?

Yes. We recreate the pattern by hand so it blends in.

What happens after I send pictures?

We come back with a fixed quote, normally with dates to choose from. There is no obligation to book.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Usually, yes. The old repair comes out first.

Do I need to empty the worktop?

Just near the damage. The rest of the kitchen stays usable.

Will there be a smell?

Some materials have a smell while they’re applied, so we ventilate the room. It fades as everything cures.

What areas do you cover?

Across the UK, and that includes Barrow Gurney. Prices do not change with location.

Do you repair quartz?

Yes. We match the colour and polish the repair.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Stone and quartz have to be templated and cut, so replacing a section takes time and money. Repairing it is a few hours’ work. Our worktop repair starts from £95. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

What happens on the day

A typical visit goes like this: we arrive at the agreed slot, sheet and mask the area around the job, do the job and clear up. Plan for a few hours, depending on the damage from start to finish. Before we go, we’ll explain when it can be used and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. We protect the rest of the kitchen.
  2. The damage is cleaned and any loose material removed.
  3. We fill it and level it with the worktop.
  4. We recreate the colour and pattern by hand.
  5. We seal and polish it to the right sheen.

Before we arrive

  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible

How to get a price

For most jobs, photos are all we need to give you a price. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

Advice

Can I fix it myself?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most often are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

Repairs by material

Quartz

Quartz is hard, but its edges are brittle. Chips are filled with tinted resin and polished to the worktop’s finish.

Granite and stone

Granite and stone chip at edges and cut-outs. The repair is filled and polished to the stone’s finish.
