Repairing versus replacing in East Chiltington

Replacing even one length of worktop means templating, cutting, fitting and frequently a new sink and hob connection. A repair takes a few hours and leaves everything in place. Our worktop repair starts from £95. There are no surprise extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Why East Chiltington clients choose us

How we price worktop repair

Prices start from £95. Every quote is fixed and free. What we take into account:

  • How much damage there is
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Unusual colours or finishes

We charge the same wherever you are, so there’s no premium for East Chiltington. The job itself decides the price: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Send pictures for a quote

Before you send photos, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Details of any past repairs
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • A picture taken from further back

You don’t need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.

Repairs by material

Granite and stone

Natural stone worktops chip at edges and around cut-outs. The repair is filled and polished to the stone’s finish.

Quartz

Quartz is crushed stone bound with resin. We fill and polish chipped edges.

When a repair isn’t the answer

We’ll always be straight with you, so here’s what a repair will not do:

  • A worktop that has moved because its support has failed
  • Laminate that has blown or swollen
  • Through cracks in stone that is moving

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think before you book.

Surfaces we repair

  • Solid wood
  • Granite & marble
  • Quartz
  • Laminate
  • Solid surface (such as Corian)

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets cannot afford rooms out of action for long, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We will fit around changeovers where we can.

What we do, step by step

We agree an arrival time beforehand, so you’re not left guessing. On site, it takes a few hours, depending on the damage in most cases. The room is left tidy.

  1. First we look at the damage and what the worktop is made of.
  2. We clean the area and prepare the edges of the damage.
  3. We fill the damage with a suitable filler and build up any lost edge.
  4. We recreate the colour and pattern by hand.
  5. The surface is sealed or finished to suit the worktop.

How to care for the repair

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Clean spills immediately
  • Oil wooden tops regularly
  • Keep joints and edges dry
  • Chopping boards prevent scratches

Wipe water away from joints and around the sink, particularly with laminate and timber.

Daily use can make burns and chips worse. An earlier repair is a smaller repair.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is generally the cheaper route.

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, make sure the area is clean and completely dry, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.
