What your worktop is made of matters
Wood
Wooden worktops can be sanded, filled and re-oiled, and burns and dents repaired.
Laminate
Laminate is a printed surface bonded to a board. We fill damage and paint in the pattern by hand.
How we handle worktop repair in Hillgrove
Each type of worktop needs a different approach: laminate is filled and patterned, quartz and stone are filled and polished, and wood is sanded and refinished. We always aim for a repair that blends in. If you’re dealing with a heat mark or burn and a chipped quartz edge, we can help, whatever the material.
Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

What we cannot put right
We’d rather lose a job than do one that won’t last, so these are the limits:
- Cracks right through stone that has moved
- A top that moves on its units
- Laminate swollen by water from underneath
Not sure? Send pictures and we’ll give you a straight answer.
Surfaces we repair
- Laminate
- Quartz
- Solid surface (such as Corian)
- Solid wood
- Granite & marble
DIY repairs versus a professional job
It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.
If you’re set on a kit, follow its instructions closely, and give it the full curing time. If it does not work out, we can still repair it properly.
Common problems we fix in Hillgrove
Water around the sink can get into laminate and wood joints, which can cause swelling.
Send us a picture if you notice any of these:
- A dent from a dropped pan
- Damage to a stone worktop
- Chipped corners
- Chips caused during installation

Prices and what affects them
Repairs from £95. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price is based on:
- Doing more than one item at once
- Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
- The material and finish
- Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it, and combining items on one visit brings it down.
Quotes from your pictures
The better the photos, the more accurate the price. Here’s what helps:
- Any details about the material
- Something in shot to show the size
- Your postcode, so we can check dates
- Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
You do not need a survey visit. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.

Repair or replace in Hillgrove?
A new worktop means removing the old one, cutting and fitting a new one and refitting the sink and hob, and matching the rest of the kitchen can be hard. A repair keeps your existing worktop. Our worktop repair starts from £95. What it costs depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed price from your photos, so you know the cost before booking.

How to look after the repair
After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:
- Re-oil timber worktops
- Wipe up spills quickly
- Watch the edges with heavy pans
- Use a chopping board
Never put hot pans straight onto the worktop. Heat can mark quartz and stone as well.
A burn or chip can get worse with daily use particularly around the sink. Repairing it sooner keeps the job smaller.
