Repairs by material

Laminate

Laminate is a printed surface over a board. Chips and burns are filled and the pattern recreated.

Solid surface

Solid surface tops are the same material all the way through, so marks can frequently be sanded and refinished.

How to compare quotes

What happens on the day

Your technician turns up when we said we would, introduces themselves and checks the damage against your photos first. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before we open a single tin. The work itself takes a few hours, depending on the damage, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. We assess the damage and the worktop material.
  2. We clean the area and prepare the edges of the damage.
  3. We fill with a filler suited to the material and rebuild any missing edge.
  4. The colour and pattern are matched by hand.
  5. We seal or finish the surface to suit the worktop.

How to prepare

  • Have somewhere for us to park nearby if possible
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit

Advice

When we’d advise against a repair

To be straight with you, some problems need a different fix:

  • Water-swollen laminate
  • Deep heat discolouration in quartz, which may not fully disappear
  • A cracked stone top that is unsupported

If in doubt, send photos and we will say what we think.

Lamas questions

Can pets and children be at home?

Please keep children and pets out of the room during the visit and until it has cured. The rest of the house is unaffected.

What happens once I’ve sent pictures?

We review the pictures and send a fixed quote and the next dates we have.

Can you repair a chipped quartz worktop?

Yes. We repair quartz chips regularly, matched and polished.

Is there any odour?

There can be some smell while we work, so we ventilate the room. It clears as the materials cure.

Do I need to clear the kitchen?

Just clear the area around the damage. The rest is covered and protected.

Do you work in Lamas?

Yes. We cover the entire UK and come to Lamas and the rest of Norfolk. Send us photos for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

What happens if you find more damage?

We will show you and explain before doing anything extra. Nothing extra is done without your say-so.

Is the work guaranteed?

All our work carries a one-year guarantee. Ask us what it covers when you get your quote.

Should you replace it?

Even if you could get the same laminate, it may not match after years of light and use. A repair is matched to what you have now. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send photos and you will get a fixed figure.

What worktop repair costs

Prices start from £95. Every quote is fixed and free. What we take into account:

  • The material
  • The type of damage
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How easy the damage is to reach

Set against the cost of replacement, repairing normally costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. Your fixed quote shows exactly what’s included.

Getting a price from photos

Good pictures mean an accurate price. Here’s what helps:

  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • A wider photo showing the whole worktop
  • Your postcode, so we can check dates

Most customers in Lamas get their price from photos. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we’ll send back a fixed quote and some dates.

How to look after the repair

Simple care helps the repair last. We recommend:

  • Use pH-neutral cleaners on stone
  • Clean spills right away
  • Never put hot pans down directly
  • Dry around the sink and joints

Hot pans should always go on a trivet. Heat can mark quartz and stone as well.

Edge chips can get bigger, and water can reach the core of laminate. An early repair prevents it.

DIY kit or professional repair?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is normally the cheaper route.
