Repair or replace in Lightburn?

If the worktop is swollen by water or badly damaged along its length, replacement may be the answer. For chips, burns and scratches, repair is normally far better value. Prices start from £95. A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send pictures and you will get a fixed figure.

Why us?

  • No need to remove anything
  • Work done at your home or business
  • Same prices wherever you are
  • Fixed prices from your pictures

See our full price list.

When we’d advise against a repair

It helps to know what we can’t do:

  • Through cracks in stone that is moving
  • Failed support under the worktop
  • Water-swollen laminate

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

What we work on

  • Laminate
  • Solid surface (such as Corian)
  • Granite & marble
  • Solid wood
  • Quartz

How to look after the repair

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. These habits help:

  • Avoid harsh chemicals on stone and quartz
  • Keep a trivet by the hob
  • Do not leave spills to soak in
  • Take care with heavy pans near edges

Leave the repaired area free of hot or heavy items until it has cured. After that, trivets and chopping boards protect it best.

Don’t leave damage by the sink, because water gets in and swells the board.

DIY kit or professional repair?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but the repairs we redo most frequently are DIY ones that have discoloured or lifted. Doing it properly first is usually the cheaper route.

What happens on the day

Arrival times are agreed in advance, so you are not left guessing. Once we’re there, the work takes a morning or an afternoon for most jobs. The room is left tidy and ready to use once it has cured.

  1. We start by checking the damage and the worktop material.
  2. Next we clean up and prepare the damaged area.
  3. We fill with a filler suited to the material and rebuild any missing edge.
  4. We match the colour and pattern by hand.
  5. Finally we seal or finish the area to match.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
