Ridge questions

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Yes, but check with your landlord or agent first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged.

Are you accredited?

We hold CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile accreditations.

What areas do you cover?

The whole UK, including all of Bath and North East Somerset. Just include your postcode and we will offer you dates.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Generally, yes. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed price.

Can you repair a chipped quartz worktop?

Yes. We repair quartz chips regularly, matched and polished.

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

We do, regularly. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

Do I need to empty the worktop?

Only the area we are working on. We protect the rest of the kitchen.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. The technician needs access to the room for the visit, at a time we agree with you.

Our hiring checklist

DIY repairs versus a professional job

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

How the visit works

We agree an arrival time beforehand. Once we’re there, the work takes a few hours, depending on the damage. The room is left tidy and you’ll know when it can be used.

  1. The area around the damage is protected.
  2. The damage is cleaned and any loose material removed.
  3. It’s filled and levelled with the surface.
  4. The colour and pattern are built up by hand.
  5. The repair is sealed and polished to match.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work

How to get a price

There is no need for us to visit first. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.

Advice

Different materials, different repairs

Laminate

Laminate worktops have a printed decorative layer over a board core. Chips and burns are filled and the pattern recreated.

Solid surface

Solid surface tops are the same material all the way through, so scratches and burns can frequently be sanded out and refinished.

What we cannot put right

In fairness, there are a few things a repair won’t fix:

  • Discolouration deep in quartz
  • A top that moves on its units
  • Laminate that has blown or swollen

If in doubt, send photos and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Surfaces we repair

  • Solid wood
  • Quartz
  • Solid surface (such as Corian)
  • Laminate
  • Granite & marble

How we price worktop repair

Repairs from £95. We charge the same across the UK, including Ridge. The price reflects:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • What the surface is made of
  • The size and number of damaged areas

Every job is a little different, so each one is priced on its own. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

How to get a fixed price

Good pictures mean an accurate price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • A photo taken from further back
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale

Most clients in Ridge get their price from photos. Add a line about what happened and your postcode, and we’ll send back a fixed quote and some dates.

Why repair rather than replace?

An identical replacement may look different next to aged worktops. We match the repair to your worktop as it is today. Our worktop repair starts from £95. Set against the cost of replacement, repairing normally costs far less, because nothing has to be taken out, refitted or made good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

What you get with us

  • Colours mixed by hand to suit your surface
  • Free fixed quotes from pictures
  • Honest advice, even when it means no job
  • We leave the room as we found it
