Worktop repair at your home in Rift House

Worktops are expensive to replace and hard to match, particularly where several lengths join. Repairing the damage keeps your kitchen as it is. Typical jobs include damage from fitting or building work and chips near the sink, in solid surface (such as Corian), quartz and laminate.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything is not right, ring us and we’ll come back.

How to care for the repair

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • Take care with heavy pans near edges
  • Never put hot pans down directly
  • Steer clear of strong cleaners
  • Do not cut directly on the worktop

Let the repair cure for the time we give you before putting anything heavy or hot on it. After that, trivets and chopping boards are your best protection.

A chip on an edge can grow, and water can reach the core of laminate. Repairing it early stops that.

Repair or replace in Rift House?

Stone and quartz tops are templated and cut to fit, so replacing one section is a big job. Repairing it is a few hours’ work. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Set against the cost of replacement, repairing normally costs far less, because there’s no removal, plumbing or making good. The quote lists exactly what you’re paying for.

Different materials, different repairs

Granite and stone

Natural stone worktops chip at edges and around cut-outs. The repair is filled and polished to the stone’s finish.

Wood

Wooden worktops can be sanded, filled and re-oiled, and burns and dents repaired.

What we cannot put right

A repair is not always the answer, and we’ll tell you before we start. Repairs will not solve:

  • Deep heat discolouration in quartz, which may not fully disappear
  • Cracks right through stone that has moved
  • Laminate that has blown or swollen

Not sure? Send pictures and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Can I fix it myself?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

How it works

On the day itself, there’s little for you to do. Let us in and show us the room, and we’ll take it from there. Most visits take a few hours, depending on the damage, tidy-up included.

  1. We protect the rest of the kitchen.
  2. The damage is cleaned and any loose material removed.
  3. It’s filled and levelled with the surface.
  4. The colour and pattern are built up by hand.
  5. The repair is sealed and polished to match.

Preparing for the visit

  • Ensure the area is dry
  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Keep children and pets away from the room on the day

FAQs for Rift House

What if the damage is worse than the photos show?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. You won’t be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

How soon can you come?

We will give you dates with your quote. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes, and it’s frequently cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and you’ll get one combined price.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Generally, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it is not worth repairing, we will tell you.

I rent my home. Can I book you?

Of course. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Can a scorch mark be fixed?

In most cases. Send us a photo and we will tell you.

Do you cover the entire of Hartlepool?

We cover the entire UK, including Rift House and the rest of Hartlepool. Send your postcode with your photos and we will offer you dates.

Will there be a smell?

Expect a mild smell while we’re working.

What worktop repair costs

Repairs from £95. You will know the full cost before booking. We take into account:

  • How hard the colour is to match
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • The type of damage

It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send photos and you’ll get a fixed figure.

Getting a price from pictures

Two or three clear photos are normally enough. It helps if you send:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • One picture of the whole worktop
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

For a price in Rift House, photos are the quickest way: a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode. We reply with a fixed quote and our next available dates.
