Work for landlords and builders

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing items every time a tenant leaves is expensive. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

Builders use us to fix snagging damage before handover, saving last-minute replacements. We can visit several plots in one trip to keep costs down.

About our worktop repair in Scatness

Different worktops need different repairs: we fill and pattern laminate, fill and polish quartz and stone, and sand and refinish wood. The goal is always a repair that blends in. Whether it’s a chipped edge and scratches and knife marks, we can usually put it right, on solid wood, solid surface (such as Corian) and quartz alike.

The work is guaranteed for twelve months. If there is a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

Repair or replace in Scatness?

If the worktop is swollen by water or badly damaged along its length, replacement may be the answer. For chips, burns and scratches, repair is typically far better value. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. Our prices are the same across the UK, so there’s no premium for Scatness. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. The trouble is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler frequently lifts.

A DIY attempt isn’t a disaster. We remove the old filler and start again, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

Common questions in Scatness

Do I need to clear the kitchen?

Only around the repair. You can usually still use the rest of the kitchen.

Can pets and children be at home?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we are working in. We will let you know when it’s safe to use again.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Generally, yes. Let us know what was used before.

Do you repair quartz?

Yes. Chips on edges and around the sink are very common repairs, matched and polished.

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged before the end of a tenancy.

Are there extra charges for Scatness?

Travel is included in the price, with the same prices everywhere we work.

Will it make a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we have finished.

Does someone need to be in?

Someone needs to let us in and show us the job. After that, you can carry on with your day.

Looking after it afterwards

Most damage we see is avoidable. These habits help:

  • Use pH-neutral cleaners on stone
  • Watch the edges with heavy pans
  • Keep wood oiled
  • Keep joints and edges dry

Keep joints and the sink edge dry, particularly with laminate and timber.

A burn or chip can get worse with daily use. An earlier repair is a smaller repair.

What your worktop is made of matters

Laminate

Laminate worktops have a printed decorative layer over a board core. Chips and burns are filled and the pattern recreated.

Wood

Timber tops can be sanded and refinished, with burns and dents put right.

What we do, step by step

Arrival times are agreed in advance, so you’re not left guessing. On site, it takes a few hours, depending on the damage in most cases. We leave the room clean.

  1. We look at the damage and the worktop’s finish.
  2. We cut back any burnt or loose material.
  3. The area is filled and shaped.
  4. We recreate the pattern, flecks or grain.
  5. It’s finished to the same sheen and left to cure.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access

What affects the price in Scatness

Repairs from £95. We price every job individually, from your pictures. The main factors are:

  • The type of damage
  • The material and finish
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • The colour and finish to match

We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Send photos for a quote

Most quotes are done from pictures alone. To help us price it:

  • The material, if you know it
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • A picture taken from further back

Getting a quote takes a couple of minutes: photograph the damage, then the entire worktop, add your postcode and send them to us. What comes back is a fixed price, not a guess.
