Worktop repair near Sough

Can I fix it myself?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is typically cheaper.

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair won’t last.

How we handle worktop repair in Sough

You do not need a new worktop because of one mark. The damage is filled and refinished to blend into the surface around it. Our repair technicians work on quartz, solid wood and laminate, and common reasons people get in touch are cuts and scratches in the surface and scorch marks from pans.

The work is covered for a year after we finish. If anything is not right, ring us and we’ll sort it.

What your worktop is made of matters

Quartz

Quartz is crushed stone bound with resin. Edge chips are very common, and we fill and polish them.

Laminate

Laminate is a printed surface over a board. We fill the damage and recreate the pattern.

Keeping it looking good

It’s all simple stuff, just a few sensible habits:

  • Re-oil timber worktops
  • Use pH-neutral cleaners on stone
  • Wipe up spills quickly
  • Chopping boards prevent scratches

Leave the repaired area free of hot or heavy items until it has cured. After that, trivets and chopping boards protect it best.

A chip on an edge can grow, and on laminate, water can get into the core. An early repair prevents it.

How it works

Here’s how a visit generally runs: we arrive on time, sheet and mask the area around the job, do the job and clear up. Allow a morning or an afternoon. Before leaving, we tell you how long to leave it and what to avoid for the first few days.

  1. First we look at the damage and what the worktop is made of.
  2. We clean the area and prepare the edges of the damage.
  3. A filler that suits the material goes in, and missing edges are rebuilt.
  4. We recreate the colour and pattern by hand.
  5. Finally we seal or finish the area to match.

Before we arrive

  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Point us to the nearest place to park

Should you replace it?

A new worktop means taking out the damaged top, templating and fitting a replacement and reconnecting the sink and hob, and it may not match the rest of the kitchen. A repair keeps your existing worktop. Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. No two jobs are quite the same, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and combining jobs on one visit brings the cost down.

Why us?

  • We leave the room as we found it
  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • We’ll tell you if it’s not worth repairing
  • CHAS and Constructionline accredited

What a repair cannot fix

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Laminate swollen by water from underneath
  • A top that moves on its units
  • Through cracks in stone that is moving

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer.

What affects the price in Sough

Repairs from £95. We give every job a fixed quote from photos. This is what makes a difference:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • How much damage there is
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • How many items we do on one visit

The price reflects the work involved, not your postcode. The full price is agreed before booking, with nothing added on the day.

How to get a fixed price

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. Try to include:

  • One picture of the entire worktop
  • Natural light rather than flash
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Something in shot to show the size

The quickest way to a price is to send a couple of photos using our quote form or call us. We will tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.
