The process

You don’t need to empty the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, put protection down and get going once we’ve agreed what we are doing. Most jobs take a few hours, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. We look at the damage and the worktop’s finish.
  2. We cut back any burnt or loose material.
  3. We fill and shape the damaged area.
  4. The pattern, flecks or grain are recreated.
  5. It’s finished to the same sheen and left to cure.

Preparing for the visit

  • Tell us about any previous repairs or coatings
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat

A new worktop rarely matches the old one, particularly where several lengths join. Repairing the damage keeps your kitchen as it is. Typical jobs include scratches and knife marks and a dent from a dropped pan, in solid surface (such as Corian), granite & marble and solid wood.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee, so you’re covered after the visit.

What worktop repair costs

Repairs from £95. We don’t charge extra for travel to Stank. The price comes down to:

  • What the surface is made of
  • Whether we combine several jobs
  • How much damage there is
  • The type of damage

We do not add extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

Quotes from your pictures

Photographing the damage takes a minute, and it saves a visit. Try to send:

  • One picture of the whole worktop
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • Good light, ideally daylight, without flash glare
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

Upload a photo of the damage and one of the entire item, and tell us you are in Stank, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote.

FAQs for Stank

How do I book?

Some photos, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, we only need access to the room.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Most of the time. Let us know what was used before and we will plan for it.

Can you price it without visiting?

Yes, almost always. Clear photos let us give you a fixed price without visiting.

Will there be a smell?

Expect a mild smell while we are working that clears as it cures.

Do you work in Stank?

Yes. We cover the whole UK and come to Stank and the rest of Cumbria. Send us pictures for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Do you hold any accreditations?

We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

Normally, when the rest is in good condition. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. We’ll tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

Can pets and children be at home?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work and until it has cured. Everywhere else in the home is fine.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

When to call us in Stank

Kitchen worktops have a hard life. Hot pans leave burns, knives leave scratches, and heavy pans chip the edges.

Get in touch if you’ve noticed:

  • Chips caused during installation
  • Damage around the sink cut-out
  • Dents and gouges
  • Scratches and knife marks

What to look for in a quote

  • Who will actually do the work
  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?
  • Aftercare advice
  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers

How to compare quotes

What we can’t put right

In fairness, there are a few things a repair won’t fix:

  • Discolouration deep in quartz
  • Water-swollen laminate
  • A cracked stone top that’s unsupported

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before you book.

What we work on

  • Laminate
  • Granite & marble
  • Solid surface (such as Corian)
  • Quartz
  • Solid wood

Keeping it looking good

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Re-oil timber worktops
  • Don’t cut directly on the worktop
  • Never put hot pans down directly
  • Use pH-neutral cleaners on stone

Leave the repaired area free of hot or heavy items until it has cured. After that, trivets and chopping boards protect it best.

Edge chips can get bigger, and water can reach the core of laminate. Repairing it early stops that.

What your worktop is made of matters

Quartz

Quartz is crushed stone bound with resin. Edge chips are very common, and we fill and polish them to match the sheen.

Solid surface

Solid surface materials are uniform throughout, so marks can frequently be sanded and refinished.

Repair or replace in Stank?

If the worktop is swollen by water or badly damaged along its length, replacement may be the answer. For chips, burns and scratches, repair is normally far better value. Our worktop repair starts from £95. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.
