How worktop repair works in Cumbria

Pan burns, chipped edges and knife scratches make up most of our worktop work. All are repaired in place. Common call-outs are for chips on edges and corners and a damaged sink edge, across quartz, solid surface (such as Corian) and solid wood.

Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We confirm the time with you beforehand, protect the area, then carry out the work, which normally takes a few hours, depending on the damage. If anything looks different from your pictures, we will talk to you before going ahead.

  1. The area around the damage is protected.
  2. The damage is cleaned and any loose material removed.
  3. It’s filled and levelled with the surface.
  4. We recreate the colour and pattern by hand.
  5. The repair is sealed and polished to match.

Cost

Repairs from £95, with every job priced individually. The price reflects the work involved, not your postcode. You’ll see the full price before you book, with no extras added later.

Why book with us

  • No need to remove anything
  • Straight answers about what a repair can do
  • Generally one visit, start to finish
  • Every repair guaranteed for a year

Getting a price

There is no need for us to visit first. Nearly every job can be priced from pictures: we need a close-up, a wider picture and your postcode, and we’ll come back to you with a fixed figure.

Landmarks near Carlisle

In Carlisle, that means homes near Our Lady and St Joseph's Church, Trinity School and Milbourne Arms Public House, among other places. You will also find Church of St Cuthbert with St Mary (less than half a mile north) and Robert Ferguson Primary School (less than half a mile south). Carlisle has its own railway station: Carlisle station. Other landmarks nearby include County Borough of Carlisle (under half a mile north) and Carlisle Castle (0.6 miles north). The countryside around Carlisle includes Thurstonfield Lough.

Repairing versus replacing

If the worktop is swollen by water or badly damaged along its length, replacement may be the answer. For chips, burns and scratches, repair is generally far better value.

What your quote should include

  • How changes to the job are handled
  • What prep work is covered
  • How soon you can use it again
  • If travel is included in the price

DIY kit or professional repair?

The difference between a kit and a professional repair is mostly in the preparation and colour. We clean and key the area properly, mix the colour to your surface and finish it to the same sheen, and the work is guaranteed.

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The risk is that a kit repair hides the damage for a while, then fails, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Repairs by material

Solid surface

Solid surface tops are the same material all the way through, so marks can often be sanded and refinished.

Laminate

Laminate worktops have a printed decorative layer over a board core. We fill the damage and recreate the pattern by hand.

What a repair can’t fix

We will not take on work that won’t last, so here’s what a repair cannot put right:

  • Through cracks in stone that is moving
  • Severe heat marks in quartz
  • Laminate that has blown or swollen

Aftercare tips

How the surface is treated afterwards matters. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Clean spills straight away
  • Chopping boards prevent scratches
  • Use pH-neutral cleaners on stone
  • Never put hot pans down directly

Never put hot pans straight onto the worktop. Even stone and quartz can be marked by heat.

A chip on an edge can grow, and water can reach the core of laminate. An early repair prevents it.

Cumbria questions

Can you repair a burn in a worktop?

Frequently, yes. The burn is cut back, filled and patterned to match.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes, frequently. We can quote for several properties together and work between tenancies.

What happens next?

We come back with a fixed price, typically with dates to choose from. There’s no obligation to book.

Can I get a quote without a visit?

In nearly every case. If photos do not show enough, we’ll ask for another angle.

What if the damage is worse than the photos show?

It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. You decide whether to go ahead.

How quickly can you book me in?

Your quote comes with available dates. Tell us if you need it done quickly.

Will it make a mess?

We protect the room with dust sheets and masking first, and we clean up when we’ve finished.
