DIY kit or professional repair?

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it won’t stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send photos, as it can add time.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: kits come in a few standard shades, and without proper cleaning and keying the filler often lifts.

About our worktop repair in Vulcan Village

Worktops are expensive to replace and hard to match, particularly where several lengths join. A repair leaves the kitchen untouched. Common call-outs are for cuts and scratches in the surface and chips on edges and corners, on granite & marble, laminate and solid surface (such as Corian).

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

What we cannot put right

Some problems need a builder, plumber or fitter rather than us:

  • Deep heat discolouration in quartz, which may not fully disappear
  • Laminate swollen by water from underneath
  • A worktop that has moved because its support has failed

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly.

Surfaces we repair

  • Laminate
  • Solid surface (such as Corian)
  • Solid wood
  • Quartz
  • Granite & marble

What your worktop is made of matters

Laminate

Laminate is a printed surface bonded to a board. We fill damage and paint in the pattern by hand.

Quartz

Quartz worktops are mostly stone set in resin. Edge chips are very common, and we fill and polish them.

What happens on the day

Once we are through the door, we keep the work contained to the one room. Surfaces nearby are masked off, the work takes a few hours, depending on the damage, and we finish with a tidy-up and a look at the finished work together.

  1. We start by checking the damage and the worktop material.
  2. The area is cleaned and the edges of the damage prepared.
  3. We fill with a filler suited to the material and rebuild any missing edge.
  4. The colour and pattern are matched by hand.
  5. Finally we seal or finish the area to match.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Point us to the nearest place to park

Do you work for landlords and businesses?

Yes. We carry out repairs for homeowners, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses.

Are there extra charges for Vulcan Village?

We do not add a call-out fee. Your fixed quote includes everything.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Normally, when the rest is in good condition. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. We’ll tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Generally, yes. We remove the old repair before doing a new one, so let us know about it.

Can you match the pattern on my worktop?

Yes. We recreate the pattern by hand.

Will it make a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and we clean up when we have finished.

How do I get a price for worktop repair in Vulcan Village?

Repair or replace in Vulcan Village?

Even if you could get the same laminate, it may not match after years of light and use. A repair is matched to what you have now. Our worktop repair starts from £95. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

How to look after the repair

Aftercare is simple, and it makes a real difference:

  • Steer clear of strong cleaners
  • Keep wood oiled
  • Keep joints and edges dry
  • Do not cut directly on the worktop

Wipe water away from joints and around the sink, particularly with laminate and timber.

Don’t leave damage by the sink, because water gets in and swells the board.

For landlords and businesses

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which is easier on the people living there.

We are used to working with agents and managing companies. Just send photos, the address and how to get access.

What we are called out for in Vulcan Village

Around the sink, water gets into joints on laminate and wood, which can cause swelling.

It’s worth getting a quote if you see:

  • Scratches and knife marks
  • Chips on edges and corners
  • A dent from a dropped pan
  • Burns from hot pans
