Why repair rather than replace?

Replacing a bath can take several days across several trades. Re-enamelling is one technician, normally one day, with the bath back in use the next day. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Adforton. What changes the price is the job itself: the material, the amount of damage and how many items.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can tidy up a tiny mark. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. Prices are worked out job by job. The main factors are:

  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • The material
  • How many items we do on one visit
  • The type of damage

It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Send pictures for a quote

A couple of clear pictures is all it takes. It helps if you send:

  • Your postcode, so we can check dates
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Any details about the material

Most customers in Adforton get their price from photos. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we will reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

How to look after the repair

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. These habits help:

  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Avoid suction-cup mats

The first few days matter most: give it the full curing time, then clean it gently. After that, no abrasives and no suction mats.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It just wears the enamel further.

What we can’t put right

It helps to know what we cannot do:

  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • A metal bath with a through crack
  • Leaking taps or wastes (a plumber’s job)

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Basins & shower trays

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

The process

We turn up at the time we agreed with you and checks the damage against your pictures first. The floor and nearby surfaces are covered before any work starts. The work itself takes the best part of a day, and we leave the room as we found it.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. The bath is degreased, repaired and keyed.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Mention any earlier repairs or resurfacing
