Bath re-enamelling for Apedale homes

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Apedale

Re-enamelling gives a worn bath a new glossy surface without taking anything out. It suits baths that are dull, stained, rough or chipped all over. We work on basins & shower trays, cast iron baths and pressed steel baths, and common reasons people contact us are chips and rust in more than one place and a bath that stays dull however much you clean it.

Big or small, it’s backed by a one-year guarantee in Apedale and across Staffordshire.

Choosing a repair company

Should I try a DIY kit first?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. The trouble is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair won’t last.

What a professional repair adds is preparation, colour matching and finishing. We prepare the area properly, mix the colour on site and polish the finish to match, and the work is guaranteed.

What a repair cannot fix

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • Holes rusted through the metal
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath

If in doubt, send pictures and we’ll say what we think.

Materials we repair

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Acrylic baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths

Keeping it looking good

Simple care helps the repair last. Our advice:

  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Do not leave a chip unrepaired
  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Don’t let dyes or oils sit on the finish

Wait for the curing time we give you before the first bath. After that, a soft cloth and washing-up liquid is all it needs.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Acrylic

Acrylic baths can be resurfaced too, using a system that bonds to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot for the finish to last.

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

Repair or replace: which is better?

If you like your bathroom but not your bath’s surface, re-enamelling is the least disruptive fix. Nothing else is disturbed. Prices start from £350. We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Apedale. What changes the price is the job itself: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Why us?

  • Every repair guaranteed for a year
  • We leave the room as we found it

Apedale questions

Is repairing better than replacing?

Normally, if the item is otherwise sound. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. If replacing would be better, we will say so.

Can you make a coloured bath white?

Yes. Coloured baths can be resurfaced in white, and the basin and toilet can be done too.

Does re-enamelling smell?

A little, during the work. We set up ventilation and the smell fades as it cures.

Is my repair covered?

Every repair comes with a one-year guarantee. We’ll explain what it covers when we quote.

What happens after I send pictures?

We review the pictures and send a fixed quote.

When can you do it?

We’ll give you dates with your quote. If it’s urgent, say so and we will do what we can.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

On the day, the room should be kept clear of pets and children.

Will it make a mess?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we take our waste away with us.

The process

We begin by going over the job with you, so you know exactly what we’re doing. Then the area is sheeted and masked and the work begins. Allow the best part of a day, and we will keep you posted as we go.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Everything around the bath is masked and covered.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Before we arrive

  • Open a window if you can
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat
  • Keep a parking space free if you can

Work for landlords and builders

Rental properties take more wear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. Repairing between tenants keeps the property presentable for less.

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out pictures. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we can arrange access with the tenant directly if that helps.
