Bath re-enamelling in Balfour, done in place

When a bath is structurally fine but worn out on the surface, re-enamelling is generally the most cost-effective option. There’s no removal, plumbing or tiling involved. We work on basins & shower trays, Victorian roll-tops and acrylic baths, and people most frequently call us about an outdated colour you’d like to change and a dull, rough surface that won’t come clean.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard.

Prices and what affects them

Prices start from £350. Prices are worked out job by job, from your pictures. What matters most is:

  • The colour and finish to match
  • Access to the area
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • The material

We charge the same wherever you are, with no extra for Balfour. The job itself decides the price: how much damage, what it’s made of and how many items.

Getting a price from photos

Two or three clear photos are typically enough. It helps if you send:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • One picture of the entire bath

For most jobs, pictures are all we need to give you a price. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we’ll reply with a fixed quote and the earliest dates we have.

Balfour questions

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Yes, regularly. Removing the old work can add time, and that’s in the quote.

Will the bath be moved?

Not at all. We work on the bath in place, with the room masked and ventilated.

How do I book?

Use the quote form or ring 0345 017 0787.

Is there any odour?

There can be some smell while we work. It clears as the materials cure.

Can I add another job to the visit?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit usually costs less than separate visits. Send photos of everything you’d like done.

Do you cover Balfour?

Yes. We cover the entire UK and travel to Balfour and the rest of Aberdeenshire. Send us pictures for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Can you price it without visiting?

Yes, almost always. A close-up and a wider photo are enough to give a fixed quote.

Is repairing better than replacing?

In most cases, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it is not worth repairing, we will tell you.

How it works

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and start once you’re happy with the plan. Most jobs take most of the day, and you are welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can typically be used the day after.

Preparing for the visit

  • Open a window if you can
  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work

DIY kit or professional repair?

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

A DIY attempt is not a disaster. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

Work for landlords and builders

For anyone letting property in or around Balfour, we’ll quote for several properties at once. Send photos for each one and we’ll come back with a combined price.

Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs. A repair avoids taking out and refitting, which matters when someone is living in the home.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Balfour

By the time a bath is a few decades old, it may have a mix of issues: dull areas, chips, rust and staining. Resurfacing sorts them out together.

Typical reasons for a call-out include:

  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • Brown or grey marks that don’t clean off
  • Worn patches where water runs and sits
  • Lots of chips and rust spots

What to look for in a quote

  • How soon you can use it again
  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • How your room will be protected
  • Whether a trained technician does the job

Our hiring checklist

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

Pressed steel

Steel baths re-enamel well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Steel frequently rusts by the plughole, so we check it carefully.

Why repair rather than replace?

For a sound bath, resurfacing costs far less than replacement, once you add removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating to the price of a new bath. It’s much quicker too. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. Instead of hourly rates, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it, and doing several items at once reduces it.

How to look after the repair

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • A quick wipe after use keeps limescale away

Rinse away dyes, oils and bath bombs straight after use, as they can stain. Repair dripping taps promptly.

Rust spots on a worn bath get worse with time and make the job bigger. Resurfacing before they spread keeps it simpler.
