About our bath re-enamelling in Barrow

Re-enamelling is a one-day job for most baths, with the bath ready to use the following day. Nothing is disconnected or removed. Common call-outs are for enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough and stains that won’t shift, in Victorian roll-tops, acrylic baths and basins & shower trays.

Every job is backed for twelve months in Barrow and everywhere else. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

Barrow questions

How do I book?

Some photos, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, access to the room.

How do I get a price for bath re-enamelling in Barrow?

Prices start from £350. Because every job differs, we price from photos. You know the full cost before anything is booked.

Does re-enamelling smell?

A little, during the work. Ventilation keeps it down, and it fades as the finish cures.

What if the damage is worse than the pictures show?

It’s rare, but if it happens we talk to you first. You decide whether to go ahead.

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes, roll-tops are a big part of our work. The inside is resurfaced, and we can refinish the outside as well.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes: twelve months. If there’s a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Can pets and children be at home?

Yes, as long as they stay out of the room we’re working in. We’ll let you know when it’s safe to use again.

Can you make a coloured bath white?

Yes, most people go for white. Mention the colour you want when you send pictures.

Aftercare tips

Looking after the surface is easy:

  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs immediately
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Don’t leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface

Treat the new finish gently at first: give it the full curing time, then clean it gently. From then on, avoid abrasives and suction mats.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Resurfacing from £350. There’s no charge for travel to Barrow. The price depends on:

  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • How much damage there is

A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send photos and you will get a fixed figure.

How to get a fixed price

We price nearly every job from pictures. This is what to send:

  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • Any details about the material
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection

Getting a price is easy: snap the damage close up and then the entire item, send them over with your postcode, and you’ll get a fixed quote back. There is no charge for the quote and no obligation.

DIY kit or professional repair?

You can buy a DIY kit for most repairs, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface is not prepared the repair will not last.

It’s tempting to reach for a kit, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Getting it right first time is normally cheaper.

When we’d advise against a repair

Some jobs aren’t right for a repair, including:

  • Problems we can’t see until an old finish comes off
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
  • A cast iron or steel bath that’s cracked right through

Send us photos and we’ll tell you honestly.

Surfaces we repair

  • Acrylic baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Basins & shower trays

What your bath is made of matters

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Cast iron

Re-enamelling suits cast iron baths perfectly. They’re built to last, and only the surface wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

What we do, step by step

You do not need to empty the room. We bring everything we need with us, put protection down and start once you’re happy with the plan. It normally takes a full day, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. We check the bath and agree the finish with you.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. We apply the primer and then the finish coats.
  5. The masking comes off, we tidy up and tell you when it can be used.

Preparing for the visit

  • Have a window or extractor fan available
  • Let the surface dry out before the visit
  • Keep a parking space free if you can

What we’re called out for in Barrow

Older baths frequently have several problems at once: worn patches, chips, rust spots and stains. Resurfacing sorts them out together.

Most people get in touch after spotting something like this:

  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • A roll-top that is seen better days
  • Enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough
  • Stains that won’t shift

What your quote should include

  • What the guarantee covers, and for how long
  • A fixed quote, and whether VAT is included
  • How long it needs to cure
  • How changes to the job are handled

How to compare quotes

Repair or replace: which is better?

Replacing the bath means a plumber, lifting out the old bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and days without a bathroom. Resurfacing gives the bath a new finish with the bath left where it is. Prices start from £350. What it costs depends on the type and amount of damage, what it’s made of and how many items we do on one visit. We give a fixed price from your photos, so you know the cost before you book.
