Bath re-enamelling in Bartley, done in place

Cast iron, steel, acrylic, roll-top and period baths can all be resurfaced. The finish is sprayed on in several coats over a bonding primer, after the bath has been cleaned, repaired and keyed. Common call-outs are for stains that won’t shift and a roll-top that’s seen better days, across pressed steel baths, Victorian roll-tops and acrylic baths.

All our work is covered by a one-year guarantee, wherever you are in Hampshire.

Bartley: your questions answered

Does someone need to be in?

We need someone to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work.

Is it worth repairing rather than replacing?

In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. If it isn’t worth repairing, we will tell you.

What happens if you find more damage?

We stop, show you and agree any change before carrying on. You won’t be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

Can you quote from pictures?

Nearly always. We only ask to see it in person if the pictures cannot show what we need.

Someone resurfaced my bath and it’s peeling. Can you help?

Yes, we do this regularly. Removing the old finish takes extra time, which we include in the price.

Will the bath be moved?

No. We resurface it in place, so nothing else is disturbed.

Can you re-enamel a roll-top bath?

Yes. Inside and out if you’d like.

Will there be a smell?

It depends on the job, but often a little. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum.

Keeping it looking good

A little care keeps the finish looking good. We recommend:

  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs straight away
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath

Wipe the bath dry after use where you can, especially in hard water areas, and rinse off any bath products.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It just wears the enamel further and makes resurfacing more work.

Repairs by material

Roll-top and period baths

Freestanding roll-tops can be done inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacing a cast iron bath is a big job: they’re heavy, often need breaking up, and a new one isn’t cheap. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Why book with us

  • One-year guarantee on every repair
  • One price list for the entire UK
  • Most jobs done in one visit
  • Straight answers about what a repair can do

See our prices page and bath cost comparison.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully, and don’t use it until it has fully cured. If it fails, we can still put it right.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that is fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it does not stop a professional repair. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

What we do, step by step

Expect a friendly, tidy visit. We agree the arrival time in advance, protect the area, and get on with the job, which normally takes a full day. If anything looks different from your pictures, we’ll talk to you before going ahead.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know about parking or access
  • Keep pets and children out of the room while we work
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area

Getting a price

A quote takes minutes to ask for: photograph the damage, then the entire bath, add your postcode and send them over. You’ll get a fixed price, not an estimate.

Advice

Common problems we fix in Bartley

Enamel’s shine is only skin deep, and abrasive cleaning slowly wears it away. Eventually the surface turns porous and stains.

You may need us if you’ve spotted any of these:

  • Worn patches where water runs and sits
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • Several chips and rust patches
  • A roll-top that’s seen better days

What to look for in a quote

  • How long it needs to cure
  • Whether the colour is mixed to match
  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT

What bath re-enamelling costs

Prices start from £350. You will know the full cost before you book. We look at:

  • How many items we do on one visit
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • The type of damage
  • Unusual colours or finishes

A repair is priced on what needs doing, not where you live. The full price is agreed before you book, with nothing added on the day.

How to get a fixed quote

When you take your pictures, these tips help us give you a firm price:

  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • A photo taken from further back
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before

Getting a price is easy: snap the damage close up and then the whole item, send them to us with your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price. There is no charge for the quote and no obligation.
