Bath re-enamelling in Bigyn, done in place

If your bath is sound but looks tired, re-enamelling is generally the most cost-effective option. There is no removal, plumbing or tiling involved. Common problems we fix in Bigyn

By the time a bath is a few decades old, it may have a mix of issues: dull areas, chips, rust and staining. Resurfacing sorts them out together.

You may need us if you’ve spotted:

  • An old resurfacing that’s failing
  • Several chips and rust patches
  • Stains that won’t shift
  • An outdated colour you’d like to change

Choosing a repair company

Why repair rather than replace?

Replacing a cast iron bath is a big job: it’s very heavy, may need breaking up, and the replacement can be costly. Re-enamelling avoids all of it. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send pictures and you will get a fixed figure.

Why Bigyn customers choose us

  • Same prices wherever you are
  • Every repair guaranteed for a year
  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor
  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish

See our full price list or resurfacing vs replacement cost guide.

Looking after it afterwards

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath

Stick to mild, non-abrasive cleaners, do not use suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so have it stripped and resurfaced.

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. A fixed quote means you know the cost before booking. We look at:

  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Any earlier repairs that need removing first
  • How hard the colour is to match
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear

We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your pictures is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Send photos for a quote

When you take your pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • Any details about the material
  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

For a price in Bigyn, pictures are the quickest way: one close up, one from further back, plus your postcode. We reply with a fixed quote and our next available dates.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, it’s worth having it done properly.

What your bath is made of matters

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that’s the part we put right.

How the visit works

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room beforehand. We bring everything we need with us, put protection down and get going once we’ve agreed what we are doing. It normally takes the best part of a day, and you can get on with other things while we’re there.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. Once cured, normally by the next day, the bath is ready.

How to prepare

  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Open a window if you can
  • Let us know if it has been repaired before

Advice

Common questions in Bigyn

How quickly can you book me in?

It depends on the time of year and where you are. We will offer you dates when we send your quote.

Can you fix a peeling bath coating?

In most cases. The old coating comes off before we resurface it. Tell us about it when you ask for a quote.

Will the price change on the day?

We’ll show you and explain before doing anything extra. You won’t be charged for anything you haven’t agreed.

How do I get a price for bath re-enamelling in Bigyn?

Prices start from £350. Every job gets a fixed quote from your pictures. Send a close-up of the damage and a wider photo with your SA15 postcode.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes. We work for landlords, agents, builders and businesses as well as homeowners across Carmarthenshire.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes. Doing several items on one visit typically costs less than separate visits. Send pictures of everything you’d like done.

Is it messy?

Very little mess: we sheet and mask everything nearby, and we leave the room clean.

Do you come to Bigyn?

Yes. We cover the entire UK and come to Bigyn and the rest of Carmarthenshire. Send us pictures for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

For landlords and businesses

Housing associations and facilities teams use us for planned and reactive repairs in Carmarthenshire and across the UK. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which is easier on the people living there.

Letting agents frequently send us pictures straight from the inventory. That means we can quote before you even visit the property, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.
