Blackburn: your questions answered

Is there a smell?

A little, during the work. Ventilation keeps it down, and it fades as the finish cures.

Is a repair better than a new one?

Usually, when the rest is in good condition. Repairing avoids the cost and disruption of replacing. We will tell you honestly if replacement makes more sense.

Can you make a coloured bath white?

Yes, white is the usual choice. Mention the colour you want when you send pictures.

Can tenants book a repair?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Landlords are frequently glad to have it sorted before the end of a tenancy.

Are you a vetted contractor?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. The full list is on our accreditations page.

Are there extra charges for Blackburn?

No. Our quotes include travel, and we charge the same wherever you are.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

Just keep them out of the work area. We’ll tell you when the room can be used again.

Can you redo someone else’s repair?

Yes, regularly. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

Different materials, different repairs

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. Only the enamel surface wears or chips, and that is the part we put right.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Why repair rather than replace?

A replacement frequently means several trades over several days. Re-enamelling is one technician, usually one day, and the bath is usable the day after. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Photos let us give you a fixed figure.

Why book with us

  • Fixed prices from your pictures
  • Honest advice, even when it means no job
  • A year’s guarantee on all work
  • We leave the room as we found it

Read our prices page and resurfacing vs replacement cost guide.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Resurfacing from £350. You will not pay by the hour. The price is based on:

  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • What the surface is made of
  • How many items we do on one visit

We do not add extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, unless the damage turns out to be different, in which case we talk to you first.

Quotes from your photos

Good pictures mean an accurate price. Here’s what we find most useful:

  • Where you are, by postcode
  • Something in shot to show the size
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection
  • The material, if you know it

Pricing is simple: take a close-up of the damage and a picture from further back, send them over with your postcode, and we’ll reply with a fixed price. Quotes are free and no obligation.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

We understand the appeal of fixing it yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.

What happens on the day

We begin by going over the job with you. Then the area is sheeted and masked and the work begins. You can expect it to take a full day, and we’ll tell you if anything changes.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the next day.

Preparing for the visit

Advice

Common problems we fix in Blackburn

Many baths we resurface have simply been well used, with nothing wrong except the surface. The body of the bath is typically perfectly sound.

If you can see any of these, send us a photo:

  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • Several chips and rust patches
  • An outdated colour you’d like to change
  • A dull, rough surface that will not come clean

What to look for in a quote

  • What happens if they find more damage
  • Whether the colour is mixed to match
  • How the room is protected while they work
  • How long it needs to cure

Our hiring checklist

When a repair is not the answer

It helps to know what we cannot do too:

  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • A bath that is rusted through
  • Problems we can’t see until an old finish comes off

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Materials we repair

  • Acrylic baths
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths

Looking after it afterwards

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured
  • Do not leave a chip unrepaired
  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Clean with a soft cloth and mild detergent

The first few days matter most: give it the full curing time, then clean it gently. After that, no abrasives and no suction mats.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Water gets under it and the damage spreads, so have it stripped and resurfaced.
