Bath re-enamelling in Blackfriars

Blackfriars questions

Will the new finish last?

That depends on preparation and how the bath is treated. Properly prepared and looked after, it lasts well, and our work is guaranteed for a year.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes, and it’s frequently cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and we’ll quote them together.

Can pets and children be at home?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work and until it has cured. Everywhere else in the home is fine.

Do you come to Blackfriars?

Yes, we do. We send a technician to Blackfriars for every job, and the price is the same as everywhere else.

Are you a vetted contractor?

Yes. Our accreditations include CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

I’m a tenant. Can you help?

Yes, though it’s best to check with your landlord first. Many landlords are happy for a repair to be arranged before the end of a tenancy.

Does someone need to be in?

Yes. We need access to the room while we work, at a time that suits you.

What happens after I send photos?

We look at the photos and reply with a fixed price and some dates. If anything’s unclear, we will ask for another photo.

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Blackfriars

The bath stays where it is, so your taps, tiles and plumbing are left alone. It typically takes one visit, with the bath ready to use the following day. Typical jobs include worn patches where water runs and sits and enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough, across cast iron baths, acrylic baths and pressed steel baths.

Your repair is guaranteed for a year, as with every job we do.

What we cannot put right

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • A bath split right through the body
  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer.

Materials we work on in Blackfriars

  • Cast iron baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

Cast iron

A cast iron bath is heavy enough that most people never want to move it. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that’s what we repair.

Repair or replace: which is better?

A replacement frequently means several trades over several days. Resurfacing takes one technician and generally a day, with the bath back in use the day after. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, the material and how many jobs we combine into one visit. We give a fixed quote from your pictures, so you know the cost before booking.

Why us?

  • Colours mixed by hand to suit your surface
  • A fixed quote before booking
  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • One visit for most repairs

What happens on the day

There is not much you need to do on the day. Let us in and show us the room, and we’ll get on with it. The job generally runs to most of the day, including clearing up.

  1. The room is masked, protected and ventilated.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. We prepare the surface and apply a bonding primer.
  4. Several coats of new finish are sprayed on.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can normally be used the next day.

How to prepare

  • Mention any parking restrictions or tricky access
  • Ensure the area is dry
  • Mention if the room is upstairs or in a flat

Getting a price

There is no need for us to visit first. Nearly every job can be priced from photos: send a close-up, a wider shot and your postcode, and we will come back to you with a fixed figure.

Work for landlords and builders

We regularly price jobs from inventory or check-out photos. You can have a price before you arrange access, and we liaise with tenants about access if you’d like us to.

We’re used to working with agents and managing companies. Just send pictures, the address and how to get access.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Resurfacing from £350. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price depends on:

  • The material and finish
  • Unusual colours or finishes
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out

Rather than charging by the hour, we fix the price before we start. Damage, material and access decide it, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Quotes from your photos

Phone photos are fine. Make sure they show:

  • The material, if you know it
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • One picture of the whole bath

The quickest way to a price is to send two or three photos through our quote form or call us. We will tell you honestly if a repair is the right fix.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Blackfriars

Once enamel loses its gloss, it stains more easily, and scrubbing it wears it down further. That is the point where re-enamelling makes sense.

Send us a photo if you notice any of these:

  • A roll-top that’s seen better days
  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • Worn patches where water runs and sits

What your quote should include

  • What protection goes down before work starts
  • How long it needs to cure
  • What the guarantee covers, and for how long
  • Who turns up on the day

How to look after the repair

How the surface is treated afterwards matters:

  • Do not leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface
  • Have chips seen to early
  • Repair dripping taps early
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas

Rinse away dyes, oils and bath bombs straight after use, because they can mark the finish. Repair dripping taps promptly.

Rust spots on a worn bath get worse with time and make the job bigger. Resurfacing before they spread keeps it simpler.
