Bath re-enamelling in Smithfield without replacing anything

After re-enamelling, the bath has a smooth, glossy, new-looking surface, but without the cost and upheaval of a refit. It suits anyone happy with the bathroom apart from the bath. Whether it’s a coating lifting around the plughole and worn patches where water runs and sits, we can generally put it right, on cast iron baths, Victorian roll-tops and pressed steel baths alike.

A one-year guarantee comes with the work, just as it does everywhere we cover.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Resurfacing from £350. Prices are worked out job by job, from your photos. The main factors are:

  • The colour and finish to match
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • The material
  • Where the damage is and how we get to it

It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: access, material, the extent of the damage and whether we can do several items together. Send photos and you will get a fixed figure.

How to get a fixed quote

Before you send pictures, these tips help us give you a firm price:

  • A picture taken from further back
  • Any details about the material
  • A coin or ruler next to the damage for scale
  • One sharp close-up of the damage

No survey visit is needed: we price from photos. Use the quote form, or ring 0345 017 0787 to talk it through, and you’ll get a fixed figure back.

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

We resurface acrylic baths as well, with a coating system suited to acrylic. It must be solid and not flex underfoot.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Looking after it afterwards

Much of the damage we repair could have been avoided. A few tips:

  • Keep suction mats out of the bath
  • Wash away dyes and oils after use
  • Do not leave a chip unrepaired
  • Do not leave bottles, razors or sponges standing on the surface

Rinse the bath and wipe it over after use, especially in hard water areas, so limescale cannot build up.

Leave a peeling coating alone. Moisture gets underneath and makes it worse, so it’s better to have it stripped and redone.

FAQs for Smithfield

Will the price change on the day?

Your quote covers the damage in the photos. If there’s more, we’ll tell you before starting.

Does the bath have to be removed?

No. We resurface it in place, so nothing else is disturbed.

What areas do you cover?

The whole UK, including all of Greater London. Send your postcode with your photos and we will offer you dates.

Can you change the colour of my bath?

Yes. We can resurface a coloured bath in white, and the basin and toilet can be done too.

How durable is a resurfaced bath?

It depends on preparation, use and care. With good preparation and gentle cleaning it lasts a long time, and our work is guaranteed for a year.

Will there be a smell?

Expect a mild smell while we are working.

How long does re-enamelling take?

Most baths are done in a day, ready the following day. We give you timings with the quote.

Can you quote from photos?

Yes, almost always. Clear pictures let us give you a fixed price without visiting.

Why repair rather than replace?

Getting a cast iron bath out is hard work: it’s very heavy, may need breaking up, and the replacement can be costly. Resurfacing in place avoids that entirely. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. We don’t add extras on the day. What we quote from your photos is what you pay, and if the damage turns out to be different, we discuss it before starting.

What you get with us

  • Typically one visit, start to finish
  • Fixed prices from your pictures
  • Every repair guaranteed for a year
  • CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor accredited

See our prices page or resurfacing vs replacement cost guide.

Can I fix it myself?

For a hairline mark somewhere you’ll never see, a kit may be enough. For anything you look at every day, anything that has rusted, cracked or holed, or anything on a coloured surface, a professional repair is worth it.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it will not stop us repairing it. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send photos.

For landlords and businesses

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams in Greater London and across the UK. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which matters when someone is living in the home.

We work for landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Smithfield as well as homeowners. Repairing between tenancies keeps void periods short, and it normally costs far less than a refit.

How it works

We turn up when we said we would and looks over the damage before anything else. Dust sheets and masking tape go down before we open a single tin. Most visits take a full day, and the room is left clean and tidy.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. The new finish is sprayed on in several coats and left to cure until the following day.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
