Bath re-enamelling in Bodmin

Bath re-enamelling in Bodmin, done in place

If your bath is sound but looks tired, re-enamelling is normally the most cost-effective option. There is no removal, plumbing or tiling involved. Our repair technicians work on pressed steel baths, acrylic baths and basins & shower trays, and the jobs we see most are thin, worn enamel in places and a peeling or bubbling previous coating.

We guarantee the work for a year. If there is a problem with the repair within the year, we return and sort it.

Honest limits

To be straight with you, there are a few things a repair won’t fix:

  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber
  • Holes rusted through the metal

Send us photos and we will tell you honestly before you book.

Materials we work on in Bodmin

  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths

Why repair rather than replace?

Getting a cast iron bath out is hard work: it’s very heavy, may need breaking up, and the replacement can be costly. Re-enamelling avoids all of it. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. A repair generally costs much less than people expect, especially compared with replacing and refitting. Send pictures and we’ll give you the exact figure.

Why us?

  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor
  • One visit for most repairs
  • We come to you, anywhere in the UK
  • Same prices wherever you are

Take a look at our prices page or resurfacing vs replacement cost guide.

DIY kit or professional repair?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it will not stop us repairing it. Just mention it when you send pictures, as it can add time.

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, once any rust has been treated. Rust around the waste is common on steel, so we check it carefully.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

For landlords and businesses

Rented homes see more wear and tear, and replacing things at every changeover adds up. A repair between tenancies is a cheaper way to keep the property in good order.

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams in Cornwall and across the UK. A repair avoids taking out and refitting, which is easier on the people living there.

Common problems we fix in Bodmin

Hard water speeds up the wear, and abrasive cleaners do the most damage.

Keep an eye out for any of the following:

  • Thin, worn enamel in places
  • Staining under the taps and around the waste
  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits

10 questions to ask before booking

What happens on the day

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, put protection down and start once you’re happy with the plan. Most jobs take a full day, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. The bath is cleaned, degreased and any chips or rust repaired.
  3. We key the surface and put on a bonding primer.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. The bath is left to cure and can normally be used the day after.

Advice

How we price bath re-enamelling

Prices start from £350. Prices are worked out job by job, from your pictures. The main factors are:

  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • Whether old repairs or coatings need taking off
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear
  • Unusual colours or finishes

Rather than charging by the hour, we price the entire job up front. Damage, material and access decide it, and combining items on one visit brings it down.

Send photos for a quote

Before you send pictures, a few simple things make all the difference:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • A close-up of the damage, in focus
  • Whether it’s been repaired or coated before
  • What it’s made of, if you know

Most customers in Bodmin get their price from photos. Tell us what happened and where you are, and we’ll send back a fixed quote and some dates.

Bodmin questions

How long is the bath unusable?

Typically a day, then it’s ready to use the following day. Deeply pitted baths may need a second day.

Do the materials smell?

Expect a mild smell while we’re working.

What happens if you find more damage?

Your quote covers the damage in the pictures. Anything extra is discussed before we begin.

Is repairing better than replacing?

Generally, yes. Replacement brings removal, refitting and making good, which a repair avoids. If it is not worth repairing, we will tell you.

How soon can you come?

We will give you dates with your quote. If it’s urgent, say so and we will do what we can.

Can you resurface a pink bath in white?

Yes. We can resurface a coloured bath in white, and the basin and toilet can be done too.

Do you do work for letting agents?

Yes. We carry out repairs for homeowners, landlords, letting agents, builders and businesses in Bodmin.

Can you do the outside of a roll-top?

Yes. Inside and out if you’d like.
