How we handle bath re-enamelling in Brilley

We resurface cast iron, steel and acrylic baths, including roll-tops and period baths. Several coats of finish go on over a bonding primer, after the bath has been cleaned, repaired and keyed. We work on Victorian roll-tops, acrylic baths and cast iron baths, and common reasons people contact us are brown or grey marks that don’t clean off and a coloured bath you want in white.

We stand behind the work with a one-year guarantee.

Brilley questions

How durable is a resurfaced bath?

That depends on preparation and how the bath is treated. With good preparation and gentle cleaning it lasts a long time, and our work is guaranteed for a year.

Are you accredited?

Yes, including CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor. See our accreditations page for the full list.

How do I book?

Just photos, your postcode and a contact number. On the day, we only need access to the room.

Do you work in Brilley?

Yes. We work across the UK and travel to Brilley. Send us pictures for a fixed quote, or call 0345 017 0787.

Does re-enamelling smell?

A little, during the work. Ventilation keeps it down, and it fades as the finish cures.

Is there a guarantee?

Yes: twelve months. If there is a problem with the work in that time, we come back and put it right.

Can a failed resurfacing be redone?

Typically, yes. The old coating comes off before we resurface it. Mention it when you send photos.

Is it safe with children and pets around?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work and until it has cured. The rest of the house is unaffected.

What we can’t put right

In fairness, there are a few things a repair won’t fix:

  • Acrylic that moves when you stand in it
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath

If in doubt, send pictures and we will say what we think before booking.

Surfaces we repair

  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Cast iron baths
  • Acrylic baths
  • Basins & shower trays

What we do, step by step

We work cleanly and quietly. We protect the area first, then the job itself takes the best part of a day. At the end we talk you through how soon it can be used and how to look after it.

  1. We sheet, mask and ventilate the room.
  2. We remove the old silicone and deep clean the bath.
  3. We repair chips, rust spots and pitting.
  4. The surface is keyed and primed for the new finish.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures until the day after.

Can I fix it myself?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

For a hairline mark somewhere you will never see, a kit may be enough. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

Aftercare tips

Once the work has cured, treat it gently:

  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas
  • Repair dripping taps early
  • Use washing-up liquid and a soft cloth
  • Rinse off hair dye, oils and bath bombs straight away

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, avoid suction bath mats, and don’t leave bottles or razors standing on the surface.

Avoid scrubbing a dull bath with abrasive cleaners. It removes more of the surface and makes resurfacing more work.

When to call us in Brilley

Once enamel loses its gloss, it stains more easily, and cleaning harder only makes it worse. At that stage, resurfacing is the fix.

Contact us if you’ve noticed:

  • A period or roll-top bath worth keeping
  • Chips and rust in more than one place
  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • Thin, worn enamel in places

What your quote should include

  • Whether the price is fixed and includes VAT
  • Who turns up on the day
  • When it can be used again
  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers

How to compare quotes

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Pressed steel baths take a new finish well, as long as any rust is dealt with first. Steel frequently rusts by the plughole, so we check it carefully.

Acrylic

Acrylic is light and warm to the touch, but it needs firm support underneath. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Repairing versus replacing in Brilley

A new bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and days without a bathroom. Resurfacing gives the bath a new finish with the bath left where it is. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. Rather than charging by the hour, we price the entire job up front. It depends on the damage, the material and access, and doing several items at once reduces it.

Why us?

  • Generally one visit, start to finish
  • Work done at your home or business
  • Colour-matched on site
  • One-year guarantee on every repair
