Bath re-enamelling in Burwell

Bath re-enamelling at your home in Burwell

When a bath is structurally fine but worn out on the surface, resurfacing is normally the best value. There is no removal, plumbing or tiling involved. Our repair technicians work on pressed steel baths, Victorian roll-tops and basins & shower trays, and people most often call us about a peeling or bubbling previous coating and a roll-top that’s seen better days.

A one-year guarantee comes as standard, so you’re covered after the visit.

Work for landlords and builders

We carry out planned and one-off repairs for housing associations and facilities teams in Cambridgeshire and across the UK. Repairing in place avoids the disruption of a replacement, which matters when someone is living in the home.

Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Burwell use us as well as householders. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it costs much less than replacing.

Common problems we fix in Burwell

The gloss on enamel is thin, and every scrub with an abrasive cleaner takes a little away. After years of use, the surface becomes porous and stains easily.

Contact us if you’ve noticed:

  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • A bath that stays dull however much you clean it
  • Wear marks under the taps
  • Lots of chips and rust spots

Different materials, different repairs

Acrylic

Acrylic feels warm and is light, but it relies on good support. Repairs to cracks are reinforced from the back.

Pressed steel

Steel baths and trays have a thin metal body under the enamel. Exposed steel rusts quickly, so we treat and seal the metal before filling.

How to look after the repair

After the repair has cured, a few habits help it last:

  • Never use suction bath mats
  • Store bottles off the bath
  • Repair dripping taps early
  • Don’t leave a chip unrepaired

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, don’t use suction bath mats, and don’t leave bottles or razors standing on the surface.

On a worn bath, rust spots keep spreading. Resurfacing before they spread keeps it simpler.

What a repair can’t fix

A repair isn’t right for every job, for example:

  • A metal bath with a through crack
  • Anything hidden under an old coating, until we remove it
  • Plumbing leaks, which need a plumber

Not sure? Send photos and we will give you a straight answer before booking.

Your questions about bath re-enamelling in Burwell

Are you accredited?

We are accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Is it OK to have pets in the house?

We ask you to keep children and pets out of the room while we work and until it has cured. The rest of the house is unaffected.

Is there a call-out fee?

Travel is included in the price, with the same prices everywhere we work.

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

In most cases. The old repair comes out first, so mention it when you send pictures.

Can you resurface a pink bath in white?

Yes. Coloured baths can be resurfaced in white, and we can do the rest of the suite as well.

Will it make a mess?

Dust sheets and masking go down before we start, and tidy up before we leave.

Can you repair several things at once?

Yes, and it’s frequently cheaper. Send pictures of everything together and we’ll quote them together.

What happens after I send photos?

We review the photos and send a fixed quote.

Repair or replace: which is better?

Replacing a cast iron bath is a big job: it’s very heavy, may need breaking up, and the replacement can be costly. Re-enamelling avoids all of it. Prices start from £350. It helps to know what pushes a price up or down: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send pictures and you will get a fixed figure.

How it works

Nothing needs to be moved out of the room. Everything we use comes in the van with us, lay protective sheets and get going once we have agreed what we’re doing. Most jobs take a full day, and you’re welcome to carry on with your day while we work.

  1. First we look the bath over and confirm the finish.
  2. Taps, tiles and the floor are masked off.
  3. We degrease the bath, fix any damage and key the surface.
  4. Primer and finish coats are applied.
  5. We remove the masking, tidy up and give you the curing time.

Before we arrive

  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Let us know which floor the room is on
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area

How to get a price

The quickest way to a price is to send two or three photos using our quote form or call us. We will tell you honestly whether it can be repaired.

DIY kit or professional repair?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs frequently look fine at first and then fail, and then the old filler has to be removed first.

If you’ve already tried a DIY fix, that’s fine. We take the old repair out and do it properly, so it doesn’t stop a professional repair. It does add a little time, so tell us about it when you send pictures.
