Bath re-enamelling in Chapels

Bath re-enamelling in Chapels, done in place

The bath stays where it is, so your taps, tiles and plumbing are left alone. It typically takes one visit, and can be used again the following day. Common call-outs are for a coloured bath you want in white and staining under the taps and around the waste, in cast iron baths, Victorian roll-tops and acrylic baths.

Whatever the size of the job, you get the same one-year guarantee in Chapels and across Cumbria.

Why repair rather than replace?

A new bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, re-tiling or making good the walls and days without a bathroom. Re-enamelling renews the entire surface with the bath left where it is. Resurfacing from £350, with every job priced individually. A few things move the price: the amount of damage, the material, access to the area, and how many jobs we do in one trip. Send photos and you’ll get a fixed figure.

Why Chapels clients choose us

  • One price list for the entire UK
  • Work done at your home or business
  • Generally one visit, start to finish
  • Colours mixed by hand to suit your surface

How the visit works

Arrival times are agreed in advance. On site, it takes a full day for most jobs. We leave the room clean.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. We clean and degrease the bath and repair any chips or rust.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. Once cured, normally by the next day, the bath is ready.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Tell us about parking, stairs or access
  • Clear toiletries, mats and anything else from around the area
  • Have a window or extractor fan available

How to get a price

Advice

What a repair cannot fix

A few problems are outside what a surface repair can do:

  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • A cast iron or steel bath that is cracked right through
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back

Not sure? Send photos and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book.

Materials we work on in Chapels

DIY repairs versus a professional job

DIY kits are sold for most surfaces, and they can make a small mark look better. Where they fall down is colour and preparation: they come in a handful of shades, and if the surface isn’t prepared the repair will not last.

If you are set on a kit, follow its instructions closely and work on a clean, dry surface, and do not use it until it has fully cured. If it doesn’t work out, we can still repair it properly.

Questions from Chapels

It’s been repaired before. Can you still fix it?

Yes, we often do. It can add a little time, which we include in the quote.

Can you make a coloured bath white?

Yes. We can resurface a coloured bath in white, and we can do the rest of the suite as well.

How durable is a resurfaced bath?

That depends on preparation and how the bath is treated. With good preparation and gentle cleaning it lasts a long time, and our work is guaranteed for a year.

Will there be fumes?

There is some smell while the coating is applied, so we ventilate the room. It fades as the coating cures.

Can you do more than one item on the same visit?

Of course, and it normally saves money. Just add the extra items to your photos and you will get one combined price.

What do you need from me?

Some photos, your postcode and how to reach you. On the day, access to the room.

Is repairing better than replacing?

In most cases, yes. A repair skips the removal, fitting and redecorating. We will be honest if it’s not worth it.

What does bath re-enamelling cost?

Prices start from £350. Because every job differs, we price from pictures. You know the full cost before anything is booked.

For landlords and businesses

We regularly work with letting and managing agents. Just send photos, the address and how to get access and we will handle the rest.

We work for landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Chapels as well as householders. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it costs much less than replacing.

Materials and what they mean for the repair

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are so heavy that repairing in place makes obvious sense. The enamel is the part that wears or chips, and that is what we repair.

Aftercare tips

Aftercare is simple:

  • Get any chip repaired quickly
  • Don’t use the bath until it has fully cured
  • A dripping tap should be fixed promptly
  • Wipe the bath dry after use in hard water areas

Use mild, non-abrasive cleaners, avoid suction bath mats, and keep bottles and razors off the surface.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and rust spots spread under the surface. Resurfacing sooner means less repair work first.

Signs you need bath re-enamelling in Chapels

Many baths we resurface have simply been well used, with nothing wrong except the surface. Underneath, a cast iron or steel bath is typically as strong as ever.

The most common problems we’re called about are:

  • A coloured bath you want in white
  • Several chips and rust patches
  • A coating lifting around the plughole
  • Brown or grey marks that don’t clean off
