Bath re-enamelling in Charlton

Bath re-enamelling in Charlton, done in place

Re-enamelling works especially well on cast iron and steel, and acrylic baths can be resurfaced too. You end up with a smooth, glossy surface. Our repair technicians work on acrylic baths, cast iron baths and pressed steel baths, and people most often call us about chips and rust in more than one place and a bath in a colour that no longer suits.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you live. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

Different materials, different repairs

Pressed steel

Under the enamel of a steel bath is thin metal. Once a chip exposes it, rust follows quickly, so the metal is treated and sealed before the repair.

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, with the outside refinished as well.

Charlton questions

Can I get a quote without a visit?

Nearly always. We only ask to see it in person if the pictures cannot show what we need.

Is there any odour?

A little, depending on the job. Ventilation keeps it to a minimum, and it soon fades.

Can pets and children be at home?

Just keep them out of the work area. We will let you know when it’s safe to use again.

Can tenants book a repair?

Of course. Ask your landlord first, and we can send them the quote if that helps.

Can you change the colour of my bath?

Yes, most people go for white. Mention the colour you want when you send photos.

What happens after I send photos?

You will get a fixed quote back. You’re under no obligation.

What happens if you find more damage?

The price is fixed for what the photos show. If there is more, we will tell you before starting.

Someone resurfaced my bath and it’s peeling. Can you help?

In most cases. We strip the failing coating and resurface it properly. Mention it when you send pictures.

Landlord and trade work in Charlton

Landlords, letting agents and housing providers in Charlton use us as well as homeowners. A repair between tenants keeps the property empty for less time, and it costs much less than replacing.

Hotels, guest houses and holiday lets cannot afford rooms out of action for long, so most of our work is done in a single visit. We’ll fit around changeovers where we can.

Repair or replace: which is better?

A new bath means a plumber, removing a heavy bath, making good the walls and tiles and days without a bathroom. Re-enamelling gives the bath a new finish without moving it. Our bath re-enamelling starts from £350. The price depends on how much damage there is and what kind, what it’s made of and how many jobs we combine into one visit. You get a fixed price from your photos, so you know the cost before booking.

What you get with us

  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • Dust sheets down, tidy finish
  • Every repair guaranteed for a year
  • Colour mixed on the day to match

See our prices page and guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.

What bath re-enamelling costs

Resurfacing from £350. There are no hourly rates or hidden extras. The price is based on:

  • Doing more than one item at once
  • How easy the damage is to reach
  • The material
  • Whether it’s a chip, crack, burn or wear

Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all play a part, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Getting a price from pictures

Most quotes are done from pictures alone. To help us price it:

  • One picture of the entire bath
  • The material, if you know it
  • A clear, close picture of the problem area
  • Any earlier repairs or coatings

No survey visit is needed: we price from photos. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and we will come back with a fixed figure.

How to look after the repair

Most damage we see is avoidable. A few tips:

  • Fix dripping taps quickly
  • Keep toiletries on a shelf rather than in the bath
  • Get any chip repaired quickly
  • Do not use the bath until it has fully cured

Avoid hair dye, bath bombs and oils sitting on the surface, because they can mark the finish. Repair dripping taps promptly.

The longer worn enamel is left, the rougher it gets, and rust spots spread under the surface. Acting earlier keeps the preparation simpler.

Can I fix it myself?

It’s natural to want to try a repair yourself. The trouble is that kit repairs often look fine at first and then fail, and the old filler has to come out before a proper repair.

Kits are cheap and easy to find, but many of the jobs we do start with putting right a DIY repair. Doing it properly first is typically the cheaper route.

What happens on the day

Arrival times are agreed in advance. On site, it takes most of the day. The room is left tidy and you’ll know when it can be used.

  1. The bathroom is protected and ventilation set up.
  2. Old sealant is cut out and the bath is deep cleaned.
  3. Chips, rust and pitting are repaired.
  4. We key the bath and apply a bonding primer.
  5. Several coats of finish are sprayed on, then it cures until the following day.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Avoid using the area for a few hours before we arrive
  • Clear the area around the damage
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift

Advice

What we are called out for in Charlton

In hard water areas, limescale and the cleaning it needs wear enamel faster, and abrasive cleaners do the most damage.

Most people contact us when they notice one of these:

  • Enamel that’s lost its shine and feels rough
  • A bath in a colour that no longer suits
  • Several chips and rust patches
  • An old resurfacing that is failing

What to look for in a quote

  • Whether a trained technician does the job
  • When it can be used again
  • Whether there are any call-out or travel charges
  • What prep work is covered
