Bath re-enamelling in Chinese Quarter

How we handle bath re-enamelling in Chinese Quarter

Re-enamelling works especially well on cast iron and steel, and we can resurface acrylic baths as well. The result is a smooth, even, glossy finish. Common call-outs are for a roll-top that’s seen better days and several chips and rust patches, on pressed steel baths, basins & shower trays and cast iron baths.

All of our repairs are guaranteed for twelve months, and the guarantee is the same wherever you live. If something goes wrong with the work, we come back.

Should I try a DIY kit first?

If you do try a kit, read the instructions carefully and work on a clean, dry surface, and give it the full curing time. If it fails, we can still put it right.

A kit can be fine for a tiny mark out of sight. For damage in plain view, cracks, holes or rust, or coloured finishes, it’s worth having it done properly.

What affects the price in Chinese Quarter

Prices start from £350. We don’t charge extra for travel to Chinese Quarter. The price comes down to:

  • The size and number of damaged areas
  • What kind of damage it is
  • Previous DIY repairs that have to come out
  • Doing more than one item at once

A repair is priced on what needs doing, not where you live. The full price is agreed before you book, with nothing added on the day.

Quotes from your pictures

We price nearly every job from photos. This is what to send:

  • What it’s made of, if you know
  • Details of any past repairs
  • A coin beside the damage so we can judge size
  • Daylight if possible, and no flash reflection

We price from photos so you don’t have to wait in for a survey. Send them through the quote form, or call 0345 017 0787 if you’d rather talk it through, and you will get a fixed figure back.

What we can’t put right

A repair is not always the answer, and we will tell you before we start. Repairs won’t solve:

  • A poorly supported acrylic bath, until it’s firmed up
  • Leaks from fittings rather than the bath
  • Damage hidden under a previous coating, until it’s stripped back

Send us pictures and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Surfaces we repair

  • Basins & shower trays
  • Cast iron baths
  • Victorian roll-tops
  • Pressed steel baths
  • Acrylic baths

Chinese Quarter: your questions answered

What happens once I’ve sent pictures?

We come back with a fixed quote, plus dates. There is no obligation to book.

Do you charge for travel?

No. Our quotes include travel, with the same prices everywhere we work.

How durable is a resurfaced bath?

A well-prepared finish lasts a long time if it’s looked after. Avoid abrasive cleaners and suction mats.

Are you accredited?

We’re accredited with CHAS, Constructionline, SafeContractor, SMAS Worksafe and Builder’s Profile.

Can you price it without visiting?

In nearly every case. If pictures do not show enough, we will ask for another angle.

What does bath re-enamelling cost?

Resurfacing from £350. Because every job differs, we price from photos. You’ll get a fixed figure before booking.

How soon can you come?

Your quote comes with available dates. If it’s urgent, say so and we’ll do what we can.

Can you resurface a pink bath in white?

Yes. Coloured baths can be resurfaced in white, and the basin and toilet can be done too.

Repair or replace in Chinese Quarter?

If the bath is sound, re-enamelling is generally much cheaper than replacing it, when you count removal, plumbing, tiling and decorating. It’s much quicker too. Prices start from £350. Every job is a little different, so we price each one individually. What’s damaged, how badly and how easy it is to reach all make a difference, and doing several things on one visit costs less than separate visits.

Why book with us

  • Colours mixed by hand to suit your surface
  • Rooms protected and left tidy
  • Nothing taken out or refitted
  • Accredited with CHAS, Constructionline and SafeContractor

Read our prices page and guide to resurfacing and replacement costs.

Common problems we fix in Chinese Quarter

Hard water speeds up the wear, and gritty cleaners are the worst culprits.

Signs it’s time to call us include:

  • Several chips and rust patches
  • A coating lifting around the plughole
  • Brown or grey marks that don’t clean off
  • An original cast iron bath that needs restoring

What your quote should include

  • How changes to the job are handled
  • Is the price fixed, and does it include VAT?
  • The length of the guarantee and what it covers
  • How the room is protected while they work

How to compare quotes

Different materials, different repairs

Roll-top and period baths

We can resurface a roll-top inside and out, and the outside can be refinished too.

Cast iron

Cast iron baths are the classic candidate for re-enamelling. The body lasts for generations; only the enamel wears, so a new finish makes them look new again.

The process

Here’s how a visit usually runs: we arrive at the agreed slot, sheet and mask the area around the job, carry out the work and clear up. Plan for a full day. Before we go, we’ll explain when it can be used and how to care for it.

  1. First we protect the bathroom and set up ventilation.
  2. Next we degrease the bath and fix chips and rust spots.
  3. The surface is prepared and a bonding primer applied.
  4. We spray on the new enamel finish in several coats.
  5. Once cured, normally by the day after, the bath is ready.

Getting ready for the visit

  • Let us know if it has been repaired before
  • Tell us if there are stairs or a lift
  • Move bottles, mats and clutter away from the area
